72% Battery Wasn't Charging. Now Won't Power On
72% Battery Wasn't Charging. Now Won't Power On
Hello everyone,
I bought a refurbished X60 Tablet about 2 months ago now and recently picked up a genuine X6 Tablet Ultrabase from the same retailer I got the ThinkPad from. Last night I was using the X60T on battery power without issue, just light web browsing before bed. Shut it down when I was done and came back to it today to put it on the dock. I noticed after a little while Windows said the battery wasn't charging at 72%, I figured maybe the dock is to blame, so I took the ThinkPad off and connected the power directly to it, and noticed the battery light is flashing yellow. The TP won't turn on with only battery now.
I've removed power from the TP and held down the power button for a few seconds, battery still won't work. Windows still shows the same charge on the battery though.
Is the battery toast? I have to check if it's covered under the 2 year warranty I have with the store I bought it from. It is a genuine Lenovo battery.

Most likely. I just had a similar kind of battery death this week (10-year old T60 battery).

Darn! The light is solid yellow now, if that changes anything. I'm going to try to take it into the shop I went to and check if the battery is covered under their 2yr warranty. Hopefully so!

If it blinks fast and orange, it's toast -- the cells inside the battery are possibly fine, and can be removed and used in other projects. There is a circuit inside the plastic casing which decides the battery should disable itself and there isn't much you can do.

Re: 72% Battery Wasn't Charging. Now Won't Power On
I'm surprised that people can mod heavily encrypted/encoded EC to bypass a battery validity check (as in X230).
But nobody has yet (publicly) managed to come up with a way to revive a battery with good cells that went below a certain voltage, no-thanks to some silly chip, that probably costs $0.02
Opening the battery is not everybody's cup of tea, but is it that difficult?
I agree to certain safeties against exploding etc. but why must there be this crazy voltage-limit?
I have read somewhere that this program might help: Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Notebook

Maybe one could replace the board inside the battery with a generic 'battery charging' board.

Might be charger port failure, Battery failure, or Motherboard failure.
