#1 Post by bayou self » Wed Jun 20, 2018 3:30 pm

Are these statements true?
1. All X201 (non-tablet) ThinkPads run Arrandale cpu's.
2. All X201 (non-tablet) ThinkPads run 1st-gen i5 cpu's.

True and false. X201 is also available with i7. (My X201 came with i7-620M.)

I'm going to take a guess regarding your second question. You may be thinking that i7=quad-core which is not always the case in mobile processors. i7 just means higher-tier than i5.
1st gen mobile quad-cores are 'Clarkfield' or 'Nehalem architecture'.
Current Thinkpads:
X31, X40, X61T, X61, X201, X220 (i7 IPS), W520 (FHD), T440p (FHD),
T480 (QHD)
Dells: Latitude C840, Precision M70, Precision M4400, M6400 (WUXGA), M6600, M6700, 7730, XPS 13
Daily driver: MS Surface Pro 7 (i7)

X201 was available with i3, i5 and i7 CPUs.

I suggest you download the X200/X201 manual from the HMM-link above.
It has all the info you need.

What's the "i" for? Intel got taken over by Apple?

Yeah these great laptops come with various configurations of 1st generation Intel Core mobile CPU. GPU are weak compare to even Sandybridge but still usable. Mind you I don't do anything requiring intensive GPU on my mobile platform.

There are motherboards which fit into the x201 which has 7th, or 8th, generation intel processors (i7-7500U Core i5-8250U, or Core i7-8550U). This modified x201 is usually called an x210.
