WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
well, it is 4.21AM and i.m chatting with taobao seller (has an additional store - www.hktrx.com).
He said that it is not very convenient to sell B133HAN04.6 as he has to order wholesale from factory.
here are dimensions of B133HAN04.9 (https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=563096434566)
looks as if it should fit well
and B133HAN04.6 (https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=561 ... v4n1o00010)

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I just compared with my old W21 and it should fit, with bottom PCB it's only ~1mm higher vertically. But since the pcb at bottom is 250mm wide, it would need a cut on each side, there is only 239mm between the hinges. I did it without issues on the W21, W11 and my 12.5" LP125WF2-SPB3 but I can't be 100% sure the 4.9 is safe to cut at that location.

Already ordered anyway. Will check if it was a right choice when receive.boutch55555 wrote:I just compared with my old W21 and it should fit, with bottom PCB it's only ~1mm higher vertically. Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Is there any particular reason why a B133HAN03.2 couldn't be used? It's between 2 and 3 times cheaper than B133HAN04.6, and it's weakness-es are only 50% srgb (instead of 72% of 4.6), and 700:1 instead of 800:1. Mr. Wallet says I could live with that. Truly, it has metal clips (35 seconds with pliers should take care of that) but seems to have identical dimensions as 4.6.
I'm generally collecting info both on Tatobao guys (comparing them with nitrocaster) and on the panels to pull it all off in a non-apolyptically-expensive way.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Panelook lists it as 306.3×194.9 mm, that wouldn't fit horizontally, needs to be less than 301mm.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I was unable to find 04.6 in stock on taobao. Please post the link if you find any. TIA.evening_hunger wrote: I'm generally collecting info both on Tatobao guys (comparing them with nitrocaster) and on the panels to pull it all off in a non-apolyptically-expensive way.
btw
a brief search on tao shows almost the same prices for 03.2 (220+ Yuan) and 04.6 (268 Yuan).a B133HAN03.2 couldn't be used? It's between 2 and 3 times cheaper than B133HAN04.6

There was a way bigger price diffrence between this:

and this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/13-3-LED-LCD-S ... Sw3sRaWF8I
but you're correct, I might get that from taobao in such case. Good.
Thanks boutch I got dimensions wrong, well I just looked up...active area, dang. OK I get it now:)

Just wonder if here are many people looking for this very LCD.B133HAN04.6
seller from taobao asks in order to decide whether it would be convenient to order a bunch from the factory.
Sorry if this is a wrong place to ask.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
From my understanding it has better color space coverage than other models in AUO's B133HAN subgroup, better contrast ratio while being still matte. But I might be wrong:)

You make a doodle or something like that to get a rough estimate of the number of panels to order, people have been asking me on Reddit about that panel and I'm redirecting them this post.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Primitive google form: https://goo.gl/forms/M8U4Iko7kSlNFZmC2
Let me know if any additional info required.
I know that further questions would be where to order, price, payment method, shipping service term etc but for now it is a simple questionary to help/reassure seller on taobao (the only I found who consider start/continue to sell these panels). https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=561 ... v4n1o00010
Once you have found another resource/store/seller to buy from please share the link so we will not stick to this seller only.
Hope there are no many mistakes feel free to correct if any
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
I've added a reddit post advertising your survey. Actually at this point I'm interested in getting also a B133HAN04.6 screen, as a spare one in case something bad happens to my current screen, installed on my x330.
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Hi all
I just installed the nitro's mod and LQ133M1JW15 screen 5mins ago. I had to cut pcb(with dremel) to fit panel's pcb between hinges- to bring whole panel down(look the pictures). One thing left is to cut the bezel. I found some workshop with laser cutting and CNCs.... W15 panel has connector on the closer side, so you don't have to use cable extenders.
I got one problem, I lost trackpoint, trackpoint buttons and touchpad after moding. Keyboard works. ???? They are not recognized in control panel. I don't know what to do. I use usb mouse
https://imgur.com/a/PL5zV
EDIT: Bezel is cut, I used scalpel and fine Sandpaper. In workshop, it would take 2 hours and 20euros, so I decided to go on my own
For keeping screen inside i used double sided foam tape on the left, bottom and right. Middle portion is just for support(look on the new pictures).

Check the BIOS for the Trackpoint and Touchpad. Both can be hardware disabled there.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Not that I know of. At 300.26mm wide, it will be very tight and you will have to use double sided tape to hold the bezel sides. Might be a bit offset too.

Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Hi, just wondering if there's a consensus on the best screen for this. I want to avoid the xps panel because of the auto brightness / CABC. Is there a perfect panel for this build?
Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
Done it and all good but the sides are too thin .
M133NWF4 R0
But you have to be good at diy otherwise stick with 12,5 and live happy.

Right now I'd say B133HAN04.6 for ease of fitting and lack of CABC. Got one in the mail, didn't test it yet though.redbluerat wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:03 pmHi, just wondering if there's a consensus on the best screen for this. I have B133HAN04.6. It kicks butt, has great brightness and wide color gamut. It's also antiglare and has no automatic brightness control. Problem is, it has a connector on the "wrong side", so you need to work around this somehow...

I've ordered pcb kit on taobao and it came with long lcd cable. And yes I had to cut hinges to fit that very lcd.redbluerat wrote:How did you overcome this? Extension cable? Re: WIP DIY x320, what I learned so far
As boutch55555 said, I was sent a wrong extension/sideswitcher cable first. However, my x220/320 is my primary driver with zero alternative, so I just *had* to put this laptop together. Therefore, first I drilled a channel through entire laptop that hosted this cable in such way, that it reached the connector (i.e. Nitrocaster's board) anyway . Don't try this at home though - the EDP cable in this solution is routed in such way that it folds together with the lid when you close it (as it does not pass through the hinge). You could even feel, when closing the lid, that the cable is being bent, as it was just harder to close the laptop. Thus, is was my priority to undo this workaround ASAP, as it was only a matter of time this cable would break.redbluerat wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 2:40 amHow did you overcome this? Extension cable? Some time later I was sent a correct HQ-LED30-156 connector/extension/sideswitcher (Many thanks to boutch55555 for the part number! ) by the Czech shop SEMA-FOR ( this exact part ). It seems more expensive than the Chinese one (no wonder, they had to import it), however I'm in Europe so it was actually pretty cheap as postage was low.Edit: a bit more about this workaround. I decided to describe it as, after all, it does enable the use of B133HAN04.6 with Nitro's board so somebody might get crazy enough to try it. The way it is done is the following. You need to drill a notch in the bezel edge, where it contacs the lid (in a complete machine, this is somewhere above the ThinkVantage button). Route the edp out of the screen assembly through there. Then, drill a small notch in the adjacent location in the keyboard bed/bezel (it's also plastic, so easy), so that you can let the cable inside the body. At this point, the edp cable is already below the keyboard. You can make additional notches in the keyboard bed (not the keyboard itself!), so that the cable eventually reaches the connector on the converter board. I also used some black scotchtape in the location where the edp cable had to bend (exactly where it's outside the body, which is around 3-4mm). The whole thing is barely visible from the outside, but as said above it has this cable bending problem. Besides, the keyboard, in an assembled machine, sits on this cable pressing it to the magnesium alloy cage of the laptop. Also, not nice.
Having removed this workaround, I basically was left with an ugly hole in the screen bezel. I used a black epoxy mass (aka liquid metal) to fill that up, some scotchtape as a 'casting form'. Now, there's no trace of it.
Today, I put this connector to work - just finished 20 minutes ago. I used only one connector/extension - it is sufficient, although not the most elegant as you need to fold it. [It "extends" the edp cable ...outside the laptop, in other words the extension is in wrong direction when installed onto this panel. Hence the fold.] But finally I can have the edp cable passing as intended in the Bible, so through the hinge.
That reminds me. Whether using AUO B133HAN04.6 or anything else of 13.3'' size, we just stick the panel to the lid with two-sided tape or some other magic trick. I just found myself in a position of needing to ..un-stick it, and believe me, I was super happy I used "only" four pieces of Pattex adhesive strip . I'm not selling this stuff nor working for Pattex, but this [censored] holds so strong, you could build planes with it. I almost destroyed the panel trying to take it off the lid. After the HQ-LED30-156 was correctly installed , I only used two pieces of Pattex to put it back
Anyhow, I still wholeheartedly recommend this panel.

I have a friend that has one, I'll test the W11 vs AUO once I get the new panel. It just arrived in Canada, so it should be early next week.

Better late than never. I started a new job at an animation studio and they let me borrow their i1 Display. I'll try to find time to do the other panels I have over the weekend.

It was created by NotebookCheck. It's 26 kb compared to yours which is 9kb. I'm not sure what the difference is--maybe they had a different model B133HAN04.x.
