Thinkpad T60 won't boot at all
Hi
I'm sorry If this question was asked before on this forum
I have a IBM Thinkpad T60 15.4in Widescreen laptop and i'm having problems installing Windows 7 64-bit on it. When I got it the bios was locked with a supervisor password and I coudn't bypass it so I bought a new motherboard. After I installed the new motherboard, I tried booting a Windows 7 install from a USB stick like I usually do to instll Windows but all it does is saying "Windows is loading files" then "Starting Windows" and then nothing happens...all I get is a black screen and it stays stuck there forever.
I tried a 32-bit version of Windows 7 : same thing
I tried Windows Vista : same thing
I tried Windows XP : same thing
I tried Ubuntu 64bit : same thing
I tried a strelec boot usb : it bluescreens or freezes
I tried flashing the latest BIOS and changing the boot mode from AHCI to Compatibility but it didn't change anything
At this point i have no idea what's wrong...did anyone have any similar problems ??
Best regards

Welcome to the Forum.
Does your machine have a 64-bit Core2Duo CPU? (between T5200 and T7600)?
If not, only 32-bit will install.

Furthermore, what's the condition of the battery ?
Have you tried running a MemTest86 from a "live" CD to eliminate faulty RAM as a possible culprit ?

It's a Core2Duo T7200RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 4:50 pmWelcome to the Forum.

It does the same with a Windows XP (32-bit) install so i highly doubt that it's a 64-bit issue
I'm running a test as i'm writing this i'll report when it's done

I hate to repeat myself, but I don't recall you saying anything about the condition of the battery...and I know I did ask...with a reason.sleepmaster91 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 10:23 pmOk so I ran the MemTest86 test twice and it passed both times...so am I out of luck ?

I don't know really...It keeps a charge but the only way to know if it's good or not is through Windows...I'll try to put it in my T61 that i have and I'll let you know

Try removing the battery altogether and installing the OS - any OS - running the system on AC power alone, and report back.
Good luck.

Unfortunately that didn't work either
Re: Thinkpad T60 won't boot at all
Ugh.
My next steps would be to
a) Remove the wireless card and
b) Leave only one RAM slot populated
and try again...without the battery.
Does the system always freeze at the same point in the game ?

Should your mobo have failed, I have plenty of replacements: https://www.theboardroom.info/stock1.html
If yours is a 15", there is even option to turn it into a Frankenpad: https://www.theboardroom.info/t61motherboard.html
