Help - How to get drivers for Radeon x1400?

#1 Post by Ya Dad » Mon Jan 07, 2019 7:32 am

Some games are having trouble running on my T60 that would otherwise run under Windows XP. When trying to open Portal via Steam, an error pops up that says:

--
Could not find required OpenG: entry point 'glColorMaskIndexedEXT' ! Either your video card is unsupported, or your OpenGL driver needs to be updated.
--

Retroarch with the Mupen64 core closes after loading a rom, but Parellel runs just fine. The former uses OpenGL.

If it's not possible to get drivers specific to my graphics card, is it at least possible to fix the OpenGL problem?

Drivers are here:

https://thinkpads.com/support/Thinkpad- ... m/T60.html

In the future, you can just click on the "Drivers" link at the top of the page and locate the ones that you need.

Good luck.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using Linux Mint 19. There are no drivers on that page for Linux.

Hoping there is an alternative to the OpenGL problem, as I haven't found a solution yet.

Don't the Linux Mint forums have any hints about this?

In case it helps, I have two X32 using Debian and I installed the drivers following this instructions: https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo

I'm aware my X32 uses a different graphic card (ATI Mobility Radeon 7000) but the link above may help...

Take note that the Radeon X1400 only supports OpenGL 2.0. You'd probably need a more recent card if you want to play newer games.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

No dice. Cannot find files/asks me if I'm root.

I'll post in the linux mint dedicated forums and see if I can get help there.

Well, in Linux, for most driver or program installations you will need to be root

Good idea, that's what Forums are for... I guess you're new to Linux, make sure to ask for easy to follow steps.

Good luck and keep us posted how it goes...

which version of the ati/radeon driver and which version of mesa are currently installed? If you don't know install the inxi package and paste just the graphics section from inxi -Fix.

Got it solved. Need a new processor, which came in today. Upgrading to a T7600. Unfortunately I messed something up because now my T60 won't start. Gonna make a thread about it and hopefully it was just something I didnt plug back in or insert correctly.

On Debian and Ubuntu based distros, you should not get drivers from websites unless as a last resort. They should be installed from the package manager. We need to know what driver you currently have loaded. Please run the following command to show us what driver you are using:

lspci -k | grep -EA3 'VGA|3D|Display'
X200s 1440x900, 64GB SSD, 6GB RAM - main laptop - X200s 1440x900, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM - school laptop
T60p 1600x1200 IPS - undecided - W500 1920x1200, FireGL V5700 - fixing the frame...
T43p 1600x1200 IPS - needs work - 240X might try FreeDOS from a floppy...
