[X201] Strange Wireless behaviour
Hello,
I found a nice X201 last week, a 3680-BA8 unit in a nice shape. It had an hard disk I replaced by an SSD Kingston A400. I installed 8 GB of RAM and the lid of an X201s with a 1440x900 display. And I installed Windows 8.1 Pro. The battery and the keyboard are new, the laptop is almost pristine !
But there is a little problem : I have deconnections from my wireless network. If I reboot the laptop everything goes fine, I can also reconnect the Wi-Fi card and it seems that the connection is good again. The strange thing is that the Wi-Fi card is always well recognized by the system. Everything seems to work fine but the connection goes away. When I changed the lid, I didn't look precisely where the antennas were plugged and I tought it was the origin of the problem. I have this card and when you look closely, you see that the connectors have numbers, but no color indicated. From the lid, I have three cables, one white, one grey and one black. I've tried different setups but there is no visible difference. At this time, the grey is on 1, the white on the 3 (the connector at the center) and the black is on 2. Previouly, I had - from left to right - white, grey and black. I tried with only grey and black (on the connectors 1 and 2, and on the connectors 3 and 2). I don't find useful informations on how to plug those darn antennas. So I would like to know what you're thinking about that.
I wanted to test another Wi-Fi card (I have plenty of them as this Thinkpad is the 30th of my collection). I think I can test about 10 different cards if necessary. But of course, when I plug another card, I get the 1802 error. Even with FRUed cards... I searched for a patch, but I don't seem to find a patch specifically written for the X201. The only clue is on ThinkWiki.de but after a Google Translate, I fear it's a bit risky (I've done it on another machine years ago, the patch was specifically written for it, but here, I'm not so sure).
I searched on the forum too, but I found nothing absolutely certain, and I don't want to brick this nice little laptop.
Thank you !
W.

Well, do make sure the Intel Wifi drivers are updated. I've seen strange things (including similar to yours) when they weren't.

Hello,
Thanks for the advice. I changed the driver. Mine was one from 2013, I installed a 2K15 one. I will quickly see if it's better.
Some infos about a no-1802 patch and how to plug the antennas ?

Re: [X201] Strange Wireless behaviour
Hello,
It's seems that it was a driver problem after all. I have tried to watch movies which are stored on my NASes and I couldn't watch them entirely, the connection was lost afer 20 minutes or so. I saw too that the connection was worse after the laptop quit sleeping.
Well, after I installed the new drivers, I could watch an entire two-hours movie (Innerspace for the curious ones ). The laptop went to sleep when I paused the movie at some time, I could continue viewing after with no problem and I could also surf on the Internet at the same time. I don't remember having such a driver problem on other machines (Thinkpad or not), but now, I know !
I still want to have infos on the antennas and the patch so, if you have some ideas, I'm all ears !
Thanks !
W.
EDIT : The driver version is now 15.17.0.1. Intel - Ultimate-N 6300 AGN - 633ANHMW.

Re: [X201] Strange Wireless behaviour
There is no NO-1802 patch for the X201, you'll need a modded BIOS with wifi-whitelist removed.
