Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
Just another Nadella's message to Windows users: "Move to Linux, if you want to stay secure = Google crap free".

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
I've been on a Chromium-based browser for a while now: Slimjet
Don't have any W10.
In all my W7 installations I had dumped Internet Explorer for Pale Moon, which I'm now replacing with the much faster Slimjet.
I would recommend their 32-bit version, even if your OS is 64-bit.
Only thing I don't appreciate: the tabs are above the URL-window, which cannot (yet) be changed.
Personally I'd have Pale Moon or Slimjet, rather than Firefox. YMMV.

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
The only glitch I've seen so far using Slimjet is that sometimes a right-click does not always open the menu window. Sometimes it takes four to six clicks to get the browser to open the box.

Will Microsoft’s decision make it harder for Firefox to prosper? It could. Making Google more powerful is risky on many fronts. And a big part of the answer depends on what the web developers and businesses who create services and websites do. If one product like Chromium has enough market share, then it becomes easier for web developers and businesses to decide not to worry if their services and sites work with anything other than Chromium. That’s what happened when Microsoft had a monopoly on browsers in the early 2000s before Firefox was released. And it could happen again.

Internet censorship has started to increase and this is just the beginning. I have gone from Chrome to Firefox.
I aim to eventually eradicate anything Google or Microsoft from my use. I still run Windows 7 which is locked down and I do dual boot my X220 with Linux.
Unfortunately there are not too many alternatives to Youtube

Hopefully Google will face the same fate as AT&T did back in the 80s, although my expectations are pretty low in that respect...Puppy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 5:26 pmWhat I expected has come ...

Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
If we are to suggest Chromium though, why not a slightly more polished version of the same browser, such as Brave. They advertise their own engine on-browser to block adds (and even to block only 'intrusive pop-up' ads).
I currently use a personal profile in firefox, my University email profile in Brave, and use Pale Moon for development and to use some of my old Firefox extensions, such as DownThemAll (RIP Nils-san).
The whole ad-blocking thing just seems out of control though -- are they saying that they will check for the Computer's signature and if it is not an Enterprise OS version they will no longer block ads or how is that to work?

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
Firefox is doing the job already many years for me. And knowing that Firefox is the basis for Tor Browser just makes me more confident we do not need alternatives to resist to the privacy invading proprietary browsers.

This report about Google Chrome scares me:
Google's Chrome Web Browser "Has Become Spy Software"
www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-06-22/googl ... tware-wapo
"My tests of Chrome vs. Firefox unearthed a personal data caper of absurd proportions. In a week of Web surfing on my desktop, I discovered 11,189 requests for tracker “cookies” that Chrome would have ushered right onto my computer but were automatically blocked by Firefox...
Meanwhile, Chrome is even worse when it comes to mobile devices - reporting the precise location of Android users unless location sharing is turned off, in which case it will send out your rough coordinates."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Whilst I have been using FireFox since v1.00, it had lost me a long time ago (memory hog, using 15+ tabs require you to scroll left/right, etc.).
Guess now that Google Chrome has become spyware (as has Windows 10), guess I'll try to use FireFox again (still hate that scroll left/right for 15+ tabs).

No wonder, more than 90% of Google revenue comes from ads. They have to do it to survive.

Yes going from Chrome to Firefox should be a no brainer but running No-Script can also help. It takes a bit of setting up for websites but you can exclude some Google and other odd scripts for lighter browsing.

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
Just curious,
1. Slimjet vs Google Chrome:
Would using Slimjet browser (also chromium-based similar to Google Chrome) be better for privacy, as compared to Google Chrome?
2. Firefox: have been trying this out again this past month.
Is there any of using 15+ tabs in Firefox that without require you to scroll left/right?
My main browser have 30+ tabs when starting off, and can go up to 45+ tabs.
Scrolling left/right is simply not an option for me.

Re: Firefox will become the only safe browser on Windows 10
I will reply but I honestly do not support these kind of questions. Install an addon to have vertically shown tabs, more tabs will be shown on your screen and you can scroll down instead of left and right which you don't like. You can also configure firefox that open tabs will be shown in the address drop downlist after typing their names. But if you ask me, these are feature requests, like requesting can we launch our machine without pushing the power button. If you are privacy minded you never want to have plenty of tabs open anyway.w0qj wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2019 7:02 am2. Firefox: have been trying this out again this past month.
