Dell to release a new XPS 15 model with a 4K OLED panel in March

Wondering whether the OLED can finally resolve the overall crappy laptop screens issue so there won't be so terrible ones available any longer.

Will they have better luck than Lenovo with OLED? The OLEDs did not last long in ThinkPads, they quickly developed tearing and other problems needing multiple replacements, they all suffer from it, to a scale like the historical T410s vertical bands problem.

Apart from that, who needs the crappy Dell keyboard?

I actually tried the keyboard in store and they really have gotten their game together. It's not a TP keyboard but definitely not a 2007 Acer Netbook.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

It's not a coincidence that the OLED XPS 15, Razer Blade 15, HP Spectre x360 15, and Lenovo Yoga C730 are all launching within 1 to 2 months of each other. These 15.6-inch laptops will likely source their 4K UHD OLED panels from the same provider.

Lenovo EU customers become a beta testers, given the typical almost double price compared to US, it is very good offer

Last year's Yoga C730 will soon have a 4K UHD OLED SKU. Unlike all the other laptops listed here, however, Lenovo has explicitly stated that the OLED option will be skipping the United States for now.

Lenovo was also the only OEM to give a firm launch price on the Yoga C730 OLED when it launches in Europe this April. The option will start at $1649 USD or several hundred dollars more than the original IPS SKU. This price difference is a good indicator of what to expect from the other OEMs.

As always with new technology, it offers a lot of potential, but usually needs refinement to reach its optimal performance.

Maybe it is new for the device category / display size but I have two Microsoft Lumia phones with OLED display (no stupid curved edges) and there are no issues at all. No green display like Huawei nor washed out colors like Google Pixel. Still wondering what problem comes with just a bigger size of the same technology. Oh well ... cutting costs again?

So have the OLED designer/engineers solved the OLED burn-in problems yet?

I don't want to have a permanent Task-Bar burn-in on the bottom of my OLED screen!

Personally I'm glad that I'm using X1 Extreme 1st Gen (X1E1) with 4k IPS LCD, and not OLED!
(But still, I wish the X1E1 4k IPS LCD is more "matt" sreen, and less "glossy").

Retired Thinkpads: X250 | T410 | T42 | 560 (circa 1996)

Wondering the same, let's see. On the other hand my Lumia 950 phone had no burn-in issue after several years.

First Findings | Dell XPS 15 7590 OLED/i7-9750H/16GB/GTX 1650 in review
https://www.notebookcheck.net/First-Fin ... 940.0.html

Endless and hopeless waiting for a perfect display: There are some downsides to this panel, however. When displaying grayish solid-color backgrounds, there is a subtle-yet-noticeable graininess and vertical banding to the image, which I have tried to capture in the picture below. Having done a bit of research online, I have found that seems to be a common characteristic of OLED displays and one that could potentially improve after a few hundred hours of usage. Only having the display on for a few dozen hours so far now, however, I cannot reliably comment on whether this has seen any improvement or not yet. All I can say is that the banding is visible and bothers me on occasion; if you are also a perfectionist, it will likely bother you as well.

It's too bad they didn't include the GTX 1660Ti as I have in my G3. Too much heat I guess with the i9 running.

It seems as the OLED displays in laptops have actually more issues than expected. This is very good article (in Czech, use an online translator) summarizing them http://notebookblog.cz/technika/technol ... lcd-asi-ne Especially the brightness regulation and grey color issues reveals that it is not ready for color critical work.
