X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Hi!,
Just sold my X230 and once again went back to X61.
I love it's form factor, the 4:3 display, narrow LCD frame, notification leds, lack of touchpad etc
Decided to keep it as my main laptop and buy sth modern to deal with tasks that need more computing power.
But recently I started thinking that maybe the X62/X63 would be a great solution, I see not so long ago there was a 4th bath.
Will there be any more in the future X62/X63 in the future? I would love to buy just motherboard, I'm perfectly happy with rest of my X61.
I tried to write an email to LCDfand a few weeks ago, but didn't get any response.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
No new batches, just remaining stocks of remaining batches. Drop me a DM and I'll see if I could assist u in getting an X62/X63 mobo?
TBH though, the broadwell chip is really getting old compared to the newer quad core chips. The performance is also not as fast as 3rd gen 35w & 45w chips. I wouldn't personally recommend it as a daily driver unless you don't need the performance.

Hi!
That's really sad that 51nb dropped production of X61 motherboards.
I like X201, but for me it's nowhere near the X61
Anyway, thanks for answering - I did send you a PM.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
I think the X210 is the best available option right now although you should read and search common problems before buying
I think it's well priced compared to an X62 and as friend above told you, the 5th gen motherboards are starting to show their age performance-wise.
Best wishes to your thinkpad journey

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Thanks! Unfortunately I think this might be the end of my Thinkpad jurney
I don't want to pay 1200$ for a X210 which I don't really like (with it's big ugly screen bezels), also couldn't find X62 mb for less than 900$ (which is crazy for a 5th gen cpu). Also the contact with 51nb was very hard for me and I would be afraid to send them more than 1000$ and then wait a few months.
I thought about buying some modern ThinkPad but I hated 16:9 screens. As I'm spending most of my computer time writting code, I really appreciate the having more vertical place. After all I just went to shop and bought a new Huawei with 3:2 sceen and 8th gen cpu. As I'm a sole proprietor it costed me less than 650$, have 2 years of warranty and after installing Arch Linux and some fine tuning I'm quiet happy with it. Keyboard feels [censored] after X61, but I get simmilar typing speed, the only thing that I really miss is trackpoint (I use mostly keyboard shortcuts so it's not a main issue for me). Screen on the other hand is really impressive, it stays cool and silent.
In spite of all I didn't decide yet to sell my X61 with SXGA+ and LED mod. Maybe I will leave it and someday there will be and option to give it second life with some modern motherboard, or I will just use it ocasionally for the CLI stuff

I thought about buying some modern ThinkPad but I hated 16:9 screens
All computers I know of today are 16:9. I see many users (my clients) use full screen for everything and that misses the boat. It is easy to set up a portrait Window, code away , and have space left over.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Well i just bought the new Matebook with 3:2 13" screen and for me it's quite close to 4:3 aspect ratio in X61.
With 16:9 I would have to carry around 15" to see same amount of code.
Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
I have a 14 inch machine under 2 pounds and it is easy to set up a portrait window on it. Not perfect, but very acceptable.
Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Of course, everyone has different requirements and will buy what suits their needs.
For me, the 16:9 screen is suitable for watching movies and has nothing to do with productivity.
Also in my opinion unfortunately current thinkpads have nothing in common with brilliant computers that IBM used to make.
Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Another thumbs up for 4:3 or 3:2 screens! If Lenovo could just make one model T or X business oriented Thinkpad I'll go shopping...! My trusty T43 with W7 died recently (4:3) and I can't overcome my dislike of the movie format 16:9 .. so I'm Thinkpad-less for now (although I use my wife's T430s during travels).

You can improve a bit on a 16:9 screen if you move the taskbar vertical, to the side.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Also if someone is a Linux user and need more vertical place on screen I can honestly recommend using i3 window manager.
With window title bars and gaps turned off you can really use 100% of your screen.
All tasks are done with keyboard shorcuts so you can put your mouse in a drawer and turn off all the unwanted UI
Now when two brands already introduced 3:2 screens there is a bigger chance for some diversity in this area.

I think I would do the same

Thank you. I think this is an underused solution to increase vertical space.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 4:50 amYou can improve a bit on a 16:9 screen if you move the taskbar vertical, to the side.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
the trouble is, what if we already have a 15" 4:3, with the taskbar moved the right and the various menu bars turned off to maximize vertical area?
Also I don't quite see how subtracting horizontal space by making portrait window would give any more vertical height for coding or anything else. It only lessens horizontal space.
3:2 looks not too bad but when will we get that with a real keyboard and a trackpoint for those who don't like swiping their fingers repeatedly around a little square just to make one move, or for those of us who don't touch their screens (it leaves marks all over the screen! and takes fingers away from typing).
Wouldn't there be some (not too expensive to manufacture) way to combine a tablet type of device (with ips screen) with a real keyboard?
X62 is wonderful, I wish they had also done some t62...

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
They (51nb) hear(d) you!
They also did the T50 for the T4x, the T70 for the T6x, the X210 for the X2xx and probably more that we are not yet aware of.

Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
Does anyone know the latest state in X61 modernisation, news of a new revision of X62 motherboards or similar projects?
Currently using: T430
Inventory: X61, X61s, X220, X230
Inventory: X61, X61s, X220, X230
Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
X210 is 16:10, and with the taskbar [censored] moved to the side it's effectively 3:2.
51nb X210 with community EC mod, me_cleaner and recelled 99W*h battery; X230 with coreboot, me_cleaner and nitrocaster's FHD mod as a backup; R500 for guests; T60 just for the looks.
Re: X62/X63 - will there be a new batch?
X210 can be 3k*2k with the right screen option
X220, 2 *T520
