Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
A31p with P4-2.0Ghz
Or
Know where I Can find this model to buy?
Are A31p's 64-bit?
Can I install a solid state hard drive? If so which kind?
Thanks!

A31p are not 64-bit. The first machines are Core 2 Duo *60 machines.
Yea you can install and SSD but I'm not sure how to do it, someone else who has done it will tell you.
I don't have one to sell but someone might.

There is an A31p on eBay that is equipped with a 2.5GHz Mobile Pentium 4-M, which might interest you.
Yes, you can. The issue is that you can only install IDE/PATA SSDs, which may be somewhat expensive. The other cheaper option that you can choose, is to use a MSATA-to-IDE adapter.

I saw that one and thought that was strange. I guess someone upgraded the CPU at some point. I believe they take up to a 2.6Ghz processor.Screamer wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 12:06 pmThere is an A31p on eBay that is equipped with a 2.5GHz Mobile Pentium 4-M, which might interest you.

Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Ya im confused myself I thought it only had up to a 2.0Ghz P4's?? It may be upgraded?? Can anyone post a link to sum hard drives tht r both solid state drives, that r compatible with A31P systems?
Thank guys!
Thank guys!
Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
I still have one or two of the (P4) 2.5 and 2.6 Ghz processors around here somewhere for the A31p if you require same.
If I remember correctly, the 2.6 ran QUITE a bit warmer compared to the the 2.0 - 2.4 Ghz versions...
I would have to dig out my testing notes to verify, since it's been awhile since I last worked with them.... In fact I have a couple of units here to resurrect as time permits.
Regards.
Dave

Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Well the 2.0-2.4Ghz were 42W CPUs while the 2.5 and 2.6 were 47W

Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Factory-wise, yes.
Yes, it can be upgraded, but the additional heat generated from the faster processors might be a problem. For example, I had a hard time keeping a C1 stepping Mobile Pentium 4-M 2.5 GHz under ideal temperatures in my R32. This was expected though, as the heatsink was very badly designed.
Here are some IDE/PATA SSDs that you can buy (I would recommend you to search for your preferred drive):
Transcend PSD330, 32 GB, MLC
Super Talent DuraDrive ET3, 64 GB, MLC
Super Talent DuraDrive ET3, 128 GB, MLC
Solid-state hybrid drives? Those were never released for the IDE/PATA interface, as far as I know.
I'm curious, where did you get those figures from? CPU-World? I don't think Intel had ever rated their Mobile Pentium 4-M processors with such a high TDP. The high TDP ratings started only with the introduction of the Mobile Pentium 4 (HT) Northwood and Prescott.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 10:22 pmWell the 2.0-2.4Ghz were 42W CPUs while the 2.5 and 2.6 were 47W
If those figures were referring to the actual power consumption, then I believe that it is correct. I doubt that it applies to the power dissipation (which is TDP), though.
Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
"Official" figures seem to be between 25.8W and 35W TDP. These are the numbers on Wikipedia, CPU World and Intel's datasheet:

Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
If that's the case, then ThinkWiki needs updating, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they were in the 45W ballpark regardless of what Intel says, I mean Pentium 4's were known for they're excellent efficiency .dr_st wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2019 5:26 am"Official" figures seem to be between 25.8W and 35W TDP. Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Just updated the Thinkwiki. It seems that whoever wrote that section added about 33% across the board to the TDP values that appear in the datasheet; with no sources given to claim otherwise, I think it's best to stick to the official numbers.

I do have one that I can get rid of once I have time to restore my A30p. It has the RAM stick problem but is otherwise meeting your requirements (P4 2.6ghz)

Sorry for bump.
I caught one.NOW....
What MS OS's runs well on A31p? All drivers available, and working??
I was hoping for Win7 If possible...
thx all!

Anything between Win98 and WinXP.
You might get it to run, but you wouldn't enjoy it.

Re: Looking to buy an A31P- 2.0Ghz. (Anybody have one to sell?)
Actually, by my time with A31p with windows 7, it is totally possible - so long as you arent using 1400x1050 resolution as the support for that resolution is hit or miss in windows 7 with these older ati cards.
Use Radeon 9000 series windows xp driver for windows 7 and it works fine. However, it seems like video playback is choppier than my A30p both using the same driver (and 2.6Ghz Pentium 4 M vs 1.2Ghz Pentium III M)
As for sound and infrared, use drivers from an SP2 installation of Windows vista and it's all good
