Orange tint with IPS screen (a little dim as well)
Orange tint with IPS screen (a little dim as well)
Hey guys, first time poster here, and I could use a bit of help from more experienced people.
I bought a 15" T60 ThinkPad recently with an IPS screen. Unfortunately it looks like the screen is dying. First of all there's a slight orange tint that is especially noticalbe on a white background. The screen is a little dim as well. I've been thinking of getting a TFT screen, but someone told me that it isn't possilbe to use one if originally the laptop came with an IPS screen. That doesn't really make sense considering all T60 models (from what I understand) should use the same BIOS that should recognize either an IPS or TFT. The way I understand it, as long as the model is compatable, it will 100 percent work and will be mountable. Can someone please give advice what to do? I really like the T60 keyboard, and the classic look just makes me cream my pants ;~) . I really woudn't want to get another one considering this laptop is in perfect condition otherwise. Sorry if a quesiton like this was answered somewhere on this forum already. I looked around, but didn't find the info I'm looking for, and I don't have too much time to read everything.

1) NOS IPS panels can be found online easily. I believe there are also really nice TN panels from Sharp(Dell c800 series) that should also be good.
2) There shouldn't be an issue, you likely got confused from the T4x which has LCD cable based resolution detection.
3) I wouldn't recommend getting *THAT* attached to the classic look of your T60 .

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Hey there, thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I really do like this one. The keyboard is perfectg. When I type it feels like I'm writing with my mind by just touching the thing.
Anyway, I'm aware that IPS screens for this model is "near impossible" to get at this point. That is not a big deal, really. I'm happy enough with a TN screen or something similar. What I don't understnad is what model should I look for as a replacement since my current one is definately dying. Can someone please give some 15" screen model recomendations?

I'm not sure where you got the near impossible idea? A quick eBay search shows plenty of NOS IPS displays that are exact replacements.an7h wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 2:24 pm@Thinkpad4by3

Sorry, let me clarify. In my country it is near impossible.

Done. I thought that setting the country during registration was enough.

A very quick search indeed, you'll get a compatible screen not the flexview if you buy what you recommend.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 2:45 pmI'm not sure where you got the near impossible idea? A quick eBay search shows plenty of NOS IPS displays that are exact replacements.

(3)Please note that part numbers given in auction titles are there to help you find a compatible screen for your current part number. It is not guaranteed that you will receive the same part number as that given in the auction title. You will receive a 100% compatible item of equal or better quality than the original part number. Some part numbers are now no longer available. In addition, the pictures shown on the auction listing are illustrative examples only to show the position of the data connector and the fixing points.
Have a look at this page, you can use the 15.0" panels for the T60, T60p, R60 and R50p. You can use IPS/FFS or TN screens interchangeably.
There are other TN screens you can use, depending on the pinout and EDID, but those above are safe choices.

Really the whole reason why I even made a thread is because I've been told that only an IPS would be compatable. Of course that doesn't really make sense, but I wanted to make sure that I won't waste my time. I've seen that webpage, but I wasn't aware that I could use a screen from a different model. Good to know that there's a wide range of options. Thank you for the information.
I suppose more comments are welcome if someone has anything to add.

That is the ideal option it seems.

Or drop me a line. Shipping to UA would be cheap, and I think I still have some panels left.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!
