do i have the correct "upgraded" screen?
good evening, im just curious as to whether or not i have an upgraded screen installed in my t430, i took a picture of it when i had it all stripped down, i was told a LG PHILIPS LP140WD2(TL)(G1) is the best plug and play option to go for but i seem to have a Samsung screen with a different model number, if i were to buy the LG screen would it be any different to the screen i currently have?, im not looking to go down the full HD IPS route quite yet due to the mixed reviews, Thanks

Re: do i have the correct "upgraded" screen?
Your Samsung screen is one of three different 1600x900 (HD+) screens from 3 different makers that are standard equipment on the T430. So, no you do not have an upgraded screen. I have replaced the awful 1366x768 screen in a T430 with the LP140WD2(TL)(G1) - in my case requiring the purchase of an hd+ LCD cable - and it's much better. Much better colours, brightness and viewing angles. It is a glossy screen not matte like the standard, which took some getting used to. I've not experienced a T430 with the stock 1600x900 screen, but one I had in a T420s was pretty bad too. If you can find an LG screen I'm sure you'll enjoy the difference, but I don't think they are being made new now and plenty of sites on ebay etc will offer 'compatible' screens that may or may not be an improvement on standard. I managed to find one of these - https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Dell-Alien ... SwyjBW6GKI - on a US ebay site last year which did contain the exact LG screen you quote. Happy hunting.

I'd highly recommend the FHD mod instead

Re: do i have the correct "upgraded" screen?
I agree. I'd done a t420s and my present T430 with the FHD mod, but was always curious as to how good an alternative the Alienware screen was, given the lower price and it's a simple drop in replacement. The chance to buy a cheap T430 with a broken screen meant I could find out. Certainly much better than standard screens, and maybe a better choice for a gamer as it's definitely a bit more responsive, but for me it has to be matte and ips.

So, at the end, what's the better screen PN to buy?

Have a read through this viewtopic.php?f=45&t=126294 for info about the lvds to edp converter board that you can buy here https://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-controller ... SwC4tboNcN. That's the one I used. There are a couple of other sorts available I think, but this one has worked for me and has not had flicker problems at all. On the T430, it sits on top of the ram cover underneath the keyboard.
Screens: The ebay link above gives a list of screens compatible with this board. Buying one is a bit of a lottery - I've only used the AUO B140HAN01.3, bought from Chinese sellers on ebay and been happy enough. Then again, I'm very much a beginner with this, and have only bought and fitted 4 ips screens into thinkpads - one a drop in for an X220, one for T420s and T430 requiring converter boards, and a drop in for a T440p. That one was a Chimei Innolux N140HCE-EN1 v2, the best of the 4 I've bought. Bright, true colours, proper white and blacks, excellent angles. Got is off AliExpress. According to this https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comme ... 0_fhd_mod/ it will work in a T430. I still have T430 and T440p, but not sure I want to swap the screens to see if it does work, as the T440p is fantastic with it.

Re: do i have the correct "upgraded" screen?
This afternoon I took the N140HCE-EN1 screen out of my T440p and put it in the T430 - the picture displayed correctly but only underneath the dreaded screen flicker. Worried that all that flicker might mean damage to the screen I promptly shutdown and returned it to the T440. Replaced the B140HAN01.3 in the t430 and all is well. I have never had any flicker with that screen. So, experiment failed - in my case anyway.
