X230 Windows and driver installation question

#1 Post by Adam-12 » Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:04 am

Hi again,

I recently installed a new Windows 7 version onto my X230 (via an USB stick) but Windows is unable to connect to a network. The laptop's hardware is fine, as I have a second partition with Linux which has no problems at all finding and connecting to my home network and to the internet.

My two guesses are:
1) I need to install additional drivers from Lenovo for the X230's network hardware. If so, where can I find information about the installed hardware?
2) The Windows file I used for installation was not the right one. Unfortunatelly Windows stopped support for Windows 7, so I wouldn't find out. But I could buy a DVD from ebay to give it another try. As the X230 has no DVD drive I would have to plug in my external DVD drive. Is the X230 able to boot from an external DVD drive?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Get the Lenovo X230 W7 Recovery disk here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=128170
External DVD works/boots fine.

Thanks again! :thumbs-UP:

I sent a pm and hopefully find a way to bring some Windows 7 life into the machine again.

Best,
Bernd

Well, no need to go for supper-specified recovery media. You can simply download and install the necessary drives from Lenovo support website.
