Found this unused mPCIe solder points, should I use them?

#1 Post by Zastrix » Wed Mar 11, 2020 7:28 am

I've just opened my W701 because I thought I found something in the manual which wasn't in my workstation. I found that the W70X models usually have an Intel Turbo Card plugged in (which is kinda an SSD cache I guess?).

I see there ARE solder pads but no connector, I see that it is an mPCIe slot and I thought that maybe because it has so much space around it that I can solder an mPCIe connector, then use an mPCIe to m.2 adapter and connect m.2 devices.

Should I try to do this when I get my re-soldering station? (I will use a hot air gun). I'm not worried whether I myself will solder this correctly but rather if it'll kill the mobo.

I'm new to the forums and I didn't see the rule for images. As I can't edit the opening post I will reply with new images which fit the rules.

Gonna take a wild guess that some of those other unpopulated solder pads need to be addressed as well for that to work.
