7 beeps at power on/restart after receiving from Service

#1 Post by typ8lbb » Wed Mar 25, 2020 6:02 pm

Just received my X1 Carbon (7Gen) from service after having wifi issues. Looking at the worksheet apparently the motherboard was replaced.

When I first turn it on though (and on every reboot) it makes a series of 7 beeps, almost in a musical tone. The laptop seems to work fine otherwise but it definitely did not do this before.

The service sheet on the laptop showed Quality inspection passed so i find it hard they would have not noticed this. Has anyone experienced this?

Did a quick search and found this on a Lenovo site under "AMI Bios Selft Test". 7 short
CPU exception interrupt error, CPU on MB generates an exception interrupt and cannot switch to protected mode.

Im about to send this back to Lenovo but i fear having it again there for another week until they look at it. if it was something simple i could do via Bios I'd do it myself but did not find anything there to disable self test or these beeps.

Called tech support but they just said to send it back to the depot, did not even troubleshoot.

Just replying to my own post in case someone has a similar issue...
Sending it back to Lenovo, i used the Lenovo diagnostic app to decipher the code and it says it is related to the display, asks to reconnect the cable on the motherboard and display or to replace the motherboard....
Another week without laptop it is, just aggravating that they should have caught this before shipping it back to me in the first place...

The LCD cable could have come loose during transport from Lenovo to you...

Yes that thought crossed my mind too, that it could have come loose during shipping, the box was intact thought. I can see how it could have just been "carefully" shaken hard enough without damaging the box....
