X1E Thunderbolt Dock Issues

#1 Post by ThorOfAsgard » Sat Mar 28, 2020 7:25 am

I'm not sure if this is normal behaviour, but going through my Lenovo Thunderbolt dock, my mouse and keyboard won't work until I sign into Windows. This is pretty annoying, as I have to slide the laptop out, open it up, and login from the laptop keyboard. Is the dock supposed to operate this way? I've updated BIOS and Thunderbolt firmware, tried different BIOS settings on Thunderbolt such as "User Authentication" and "No authentication", but it doesn't make any difference. Also, it doesn't matter which USB ports I use on the dock. Same effect.

I don't have an X1E but my X1C5 has "Support in Pre Boot Environment" options under its Thunderbolt menu in the BIOS setup, and they need to be enabled. Don't you have the same options there?

Yes, it's enabled. I've fiddled with just about every Thunderbolt BIOS setting I thought could remotely affect the given behaviour, but to no avail.

Which Docking Station are you using for your X1E1 (X1 Extreme 1st Gen)?

We are happy to report that things are fully compatible with our own X1E1 and our 40AN230UK (ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (Gen 2)),
which was made specifically for X1E1/X1E2, P1 (Gen 1 & Gen 2), P52, P72. (Not sure about P53 & P73, can someone chip in for these).

Perhaps you are using an older docking station, hence your issues observed?
