New battery for x220

#1 Post by Hoge Morris » Sat May 02, 2020 10:50 pm

Does anyone have a good source for a new OEM battery for an x220? The reviews that I see on Amazon and Ebay are all over the map. I want the real thing and not an unreliable knockoff. Both 6-cell and 9-cells would be fine.

Has anyone recently bought a good one from reliable place? I have several batteries that barely hold a charge any more. I haven't bought one for a few years, which in itself says something positive about the OEM batteries.

Thanks.

I don't think NEW ones exist. Only new old stock at best. Look for Battery 44+/44++ instead - it's for the X230, compatible with the X220, and may be a bit newer (but also not manufactured anymore, as far as I know).

I'm in the "metoo" camp, only that I no longer look for a "genuine" battery, because I'm pretty sure they don't exist. I'd be happy with a mildly decent 3rd party, but none of them seem to come up with consistently positive comments. There are about 2 - 3 "branded", i.e. funny names brands available on aliexpress, and still dodgier ones, usually "genuine" ones on ebay, but they all seem hit and miss in terms of quality, generally a miss :(

n.

I've seen quite a few positives for KingSener batteries on Aliexpress.

Is this series, X220i in particular, afflicted with the battery whitelist issue or will aftermarket batteries (based on level of dodginess) work?

AFAIK only the xx30 Series has that battery check, which can be removed via an EC-mod.
