A Question on Models and Versions

#1 Post by Scorpion8 » Tue May 26, 2020 10:38 am

So I have found recently that two of my Thinkpad's, including this new-to-me T420, aren't listed in the model series on ThinkWiki's Hardware Specifications (https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Hardware_Specifications). Are those lists all-inclusive, or do I have Canadian models or something else not listed? This T420 is a 4180CTO, which the "CTO" part is not listed at all in the list of 4180-models. The same issue occurs on my T430s. Of course they all still perform lik champs, but it'd be nice to know why.

Just making sure, are you aware of https://sites.google.com/site/twisteroi ... okup-table ?
I personally downloaded that large .cvs file and fgrep it when needed; there's also an Excel but it's so large it makes my Excel slow :)
Not sure up to which model is covered there but I think T440p is still in scope
It's true you won't get that much for CTO (configure-to-order) varieties.. for T61-s I can gauge screen size and GPU type but nothing else.. the table is probably even less useful for the generations where screen size is obvious :)

Most of older ones (I think up to xx30) can be found in the MTM link at the top of this page.
(But no CTO).

But no CTO
For T61 I was able to find lots of "based on" for each CTO in that .csv. The variety of these "based on" configurations allows to gauge some basic properties they all have in common. Not bullet-proof but better than nothing :) BTW I wouldn't be surprised if http://tp.krelay.de/ was a web-interface for searching data sourced from this or similar .csv file

T/W 430/530 and later should still be on Lenovo's sites. You might need to look it up on the warranty page with the MTM and the serial # (no dashes) That will tell you how it left the factory, even if it was a xxxx-CTO.

Well, regardless, I love this T420. The size is right, the heft is right, the keyboard is perfect, the screen is great ... maybe some upgrades inline. Another SSD to store files and programs off the eSATA M2 drive, more RAM, perhaps one day a faster CPU (it has i5-2540M). Back in the day whomever CTO'ed this thing must have had one bitching device. And it runs Windows 10 great as is already.
