R61 going to sleep after CPU install
R61 going to sleep after CPU install
Hi. Just installed CPU T9300 on R61 15" 4:3 (8944). It not started until I flashed Middleton 1.24-1.00 AND 2.24-1.08.
Then I ran two intances of MemTest, and after several minutes PC going to sleep, and after wake-up it's again going to sleep and you can't logon into Windows.
Power settings is not configured to sleep Except Hibernation on 5% of battery. I have AC power and full battery...
CPU temp is 90°C and more...

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
Welcome to the forum.
How do you measure the CPU temperature? 90C is insanely hot - the CPU should not be running at this temperature, and it's no wonder it's turning off. Could it be you did not put the heatsink back on correctly? Did you properly apply fresh thermal paste?

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
I'm measuring temperature with hwinfo32. The maximum registered temperature is 98°C before it turns off.
I think, it's installed properly, because the case is heating up, which means the processor gives off heat.
Why it does not throttle instead of turning off?
When idle, it can temporarily stop responding and mouse cursor not moving until you press any key..

You "think" it's installed properly, or it is installed properly?
There's a big difference.

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
Did you correctly apply thermal paste? And is the fan working?
Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
Yes, I applied thermal paste on the radiator above the CPU. Max CPU temp is 95°C (Distance to TjMAX is 10°C) but Max Motherboard temp and Temp0 is 99°C and Max (G)MCH temp is 85°C. Fan is working.
On the radiator above the chipset there is a thermal pad, I did not remove it. I don't know if the thermal paste will provide a tight contact between the chipset and the radiator, because the thermal pad is a little thick. Even so, the temperature is high anyway.

Are you sure you read temperatures in C(elsius) and not F(ahrenheit)?

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
The fan is not running at full speed. This is probably because Penryn processors have a digital sensor that the computer cannot read. But why hasn't anyone who has upgraded to Penryn faced this problem?
To control fan speed it is required to use a separate software, but I would like to control fan speed without using a software.

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
If you keep having such high temperatures there are a few possible causes:
- you did not (properly) apply (or not use enough/decent quality) thermal paste
- you did not properly tighten all 4 screws for the heatsink
- the heatsink is warped or does not sit properly/flat on the CPU
- the cooling pipes on the heatsink are bent or leaking
- you got a faulty Chinese knock-off CPU

Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
This is under full load because the fan speed is not well controlled by the motherboard.
Re: R61 going to sleep after CPU install
Cleaned the heatsink from the dust, and now max Core temp is 70°C, MoBo - 73°C, MCH - 61°C. But what about speed control? Controlling with IBM_ECW but want it to be automatically controlled by the bios.
