Replacing W-500-520 Touchpad

The Touchpad for the W-500-520 is fixed in place with melted plastic studs holding the "U" shaped metal strips down.

Is replacing the Touchpad simply a matter of grinding down the studs, and then gluing the touchpad and strips back into place?
