X220 TN panel dull colors no more

#1 Post by Droider » Fri May 10, 2019 1:40 pm

Hello everyone,

X220 TN panel is nothing but mediocre at best in terms of color vividness and accuracy, it is dull colored and has a stupid bluish tint. It is just bad however you look at it. There is an utility called Display Profile(supports windows xp,vista,8.1,10) https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/downloads/ ... rofile.zip
which can change windows color profiles with a simple click, easy as that so you don't have to deal with windows built in color management or install monitor calibration software, nor mess with intel graphics settings. There're many custom or official color profiles (*.icm ) available at https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm for you to download and try out yourself until you find the sweet spot to your liking.

my fave one is hp_l2335_user_icc better for web browsing and movies.

X230 Tablet, i7-3520M/16GB/512GB 860EVO, 12.5" HD, LED IPS
T61p, Core2Duo T9500/4GB/256GB 860EVO,14" SXGA+

Looking for the T60P 15" :!:

Stumbled across this thread while wiping my old X220. I have used my i1display puck + displaycal to calibrate the LTN125AT01401 Samsung panel. If you have this panel, this file might help as it's a calibration of this exact display model:

However, YMMV as not all panels are exactly the same so yours may be slightly different out of the box, however its likely to be a closer match to mine than a random other one :)

On my T430 I found that lowering the brightness slightly, as well as increasing the contrast and saturation by a small amount really make the display feel SLIGHTLY better. It's still nothing close the the TN even in the 1st gen X1 Carbon, but it's still an improvement and it's free :)

I recall that when I had a very dull TN panel on my T410, I simply boosted the saturation in the Intel GPU control panel. I bet it wasn't accurate at all, but it definitely made the colors look more "lively".

If you're using GNOME, it has a built-in color manager which you can load ICC/ICM color profiles with.
