T440p with discrete fan and integrated GPU: major improvement
Probably preaching to the choir, but I finally got around to putting the discrete fan in my T440p with iGPU.
It had been sitting (almost forgotten) in my cupboard since December 2019!
The other day, when I wanted to refresh the thermal paste in my T440p with i7-4702MQ, I suddenly remembered that I still had that fan somewhere...
And what a difference it made!
I put it in with Phobya NanoGrease Extreme thermal paste, and temperatures have since dropped by almost 15 Centigrade/Celsius!
On a 'bad' day, temps just manage to hit maybe 55C, on average they now are around 42C.
Well worth the swap!

Re: T440p with discrete fan and integrated GPU: major improvement
This is not a mod, just a plain replacement of an iGPU fan with a dGPU fan. (Complete heatsink+fan, not just the fan!)
Mine has FRU 0C53568, can't see who it was made by.
Bought mine for $28, nowadays they are anywhere between $60 and $100 (and exceedingly rare!).
List of all the heatsinks+fan for T440p that I have found (UMA=integrated, SWG=discrete):
04X1853 Fan UMA (Toshiba)
04X1854 Fan SWG (Toshiba)
00HM902 Fan UMA (Toshiba)
00HM903 Fan SWG (Toshiba)
04X3915 Fan UMA (AVC)
04X3916 Fan SWG (AVC)
04X3917 Fan UMA (Delta)
04X3918 Fan SWG (Delta)
0C53567 Fan UMA (unknown) \ Tosh?
0C53568 Fan SWG (unknown) /

This is the one I ordered..
https://www.ebay.de/itm/324783630879?ss ... 1438.l2649
mine has as dgpu (gt730m)
but the fan is annoyingly loud and only has a blank label on it, so I don't know what brand..

In case someone recognizes WHO makes this T440p heatsink+fan 0C53568:

Re: T440p with discrete fan and integrated GPU: major improvement
so.. huh wait..
did you only replace the fan or did you replace the entire heatsink?
I know different heatsinks exist since the discrete GPU one has an additional heatpipe.
But.. different fans for different kind of heatsinks?? I wasn't aware of that.

I replaced the whole heatsink+fan (from iGPU to dGPU).

It is hard to imagine a 15* drop, just from one extra little heat tube!RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 12:32 pmI replaced the whole heatsink+fan (from iGPU to dGPU).

It's probably combined factor of all the things:
more efficient heat pipe,
new good quality thermal paste,
fan cleaned of dust.
