#1 Post by Misu » Tue Aug 27, 2024 1:55 pm

Hi,

Does somebody have a picture or dimensions of this adapter?
https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraBay ... ry_Adapter.

Or even one for sale ? :D

I want to put 2 batteries in my ThinkPad 770X and make it even more heavy :)

Hello Bill,

If you are not afraid to go deep into your dungeon, I will be happy to buy that small plastic piece from you and anything else that belongs to ThinkPad 770 series, and you will not miss that :) I am trying to put together one piece with all possible accessories and docks. The "missing link" is still SelectABase 770. I have Dock II, Dock III and a few 770, E, ED, X models here. Even with 1280x1024 resolution, that is really nice for DOS with its pixel perfect full-screen text mode. But it is no way to connect that together with docks right now and have even more fun with my kids. It is nice to see them playing games from my childhood :D

Anyway, I have two original batteries (over 20 years old) that are holding almost full charge. I plan to make some "run flat" test with them both in the laptop. I think that I can expect better battery time than from an average modern laptop :D

Just to say that: To make things easier, I have a US shipping address.

i have 9 thinkpads of varing types, one is a demo model of the x300 i think, upstairs..
dungeon visit tomorrow, maybe..
you can have them ALL for free.. shipping on you, one is a pretty beat up 760CD machine that, i was told, took an unexpected short flight across bangkok airport and at least 5 external floppy drives of various type connectors, one for a 755CD..
if i am going to spend the better part of a day packing these and whatever is in the wine celler (think the cask of amontillado) you have to take them all and agree to be a good custodian.. i'll make some sort of list, soon..

otherwise little that looks like it is for a 770.. many floppy drives, CD drives but all lok like they are for 760 series thinkads..
and abou six New Old Stock thinkpad 701C keyboards, some questionable system boards for a 701C maybe..

Thank you that you checked in your dungeon. Batteries are problematic to get to Europe, even if they are 100% dead. Parts for 760 series are interesting. I have some halv-alive 760 models here. Even one with MIDI port dongle. If you have some 2.88 floppy drives around, maybe ? FRU 66G5060. I am playing with "onefloppy" Linux based on the latest kernel and some apps in assembly for user space right now. Of course, it will run from one 2.88MB floppy :D I am able to boot it and get it to work with less than 16MB RAM. RAM usage after booting is ca 3MB. It is more for training my brain and showing things to my kids than for some practical reason. But it is fun to hunt bytes of code in assembly :D

Or first or second HDD adapter. I have SelectABase I, so these smaller brothers of 770 can be connected to the docks. And I can for sure buy / take care of one 701C keyboard.

I will also be happy for the pic of that X300. Is it different from normal production models?

It is not working here. But, what about rights in google photos. Is the pic public? That could explain that you can see it when you are logged in :)

i did not know about a setting in google re. rights, thought it would be public, i'll look..
looked at my google account but going in circle looking for how to grant free access to that picture..
if you know how, please let me know..

meanwhile there has been a massive DDoS attack directed at thinkpads starting before i uploaded that pic..

Looking through tons of 'tips' how to make a Google picture accessible to the public, I got so many different and complicated suggestions, I gave up!
What a shambles!

IMHO a much easier solution is to go (for free) to https://imgur.com/
Select New post at the top of the screen.
On the next screen click on Choose Photo/Video and select your picture.
When it shows on Imgur, hover your cursor over the new picture and choose either "Copy link" or "..." (3 dots) next to it.

If you select Copy Link, paste that link in your Forum post, it looks like
https://imgur.com/rf0fk2S

But if you want to show the image itself in your post, click on the 3 dots ... and select Share links.
From there, select the "BBCode (Forums) Copy link", it will look like
[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2S.jpeg[/xxx] (demo, where 'img' has been replaced with 'xxx')

If a picture is too big to display (e.g. 1800x1200), the Forum will show this warning:
Your images may only be up to 600 pixels high.

Not to worry, there is a little known trick to resize Imgur pictures.
You can add a letter (s, m, l, h) immediately before the .jpeg in the link and then check using Preview your post.
Once you are happy, you can Submit your post.

[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2S.jpeg[/xxx] original = too big, warning.
[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2Ss.jpeg[/xxx] added 's' = Small, see below
[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2Sm.jpeg[/xxx] added 'm' = Medium, see below
[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2Sl.jpeg[/xxx] added 'l' = Large, see below
[xxx]https://i.imgur.com/rf0fk2Sh.jpeg[/xxx] added 'h' = Huge, too big, warning

With added 's', Small
Image

With added 'm', Medium

With added 'l', Large

Nice and easy way how to post pictures here. Thank you. I will use it.

I saw yesterday that the forum was really "lazy". Now I know why. It is still slow, but not so as it was yesterday. What about blocking all IPs for an hour or two? ... and hope that the attacking script is intelligent enough to redirect itself to some other place.

Yes. It is working now. Thank you.

If it is for sale, I am interested. Together with those plastic parts and floppy drives for 760 and 770 models and one 701C keyboard. Meanwhile, I was able to source an external charger for batteries of these old systems. For 5 USD in original box. So the collection of accessories is growing :)

i found a box with a port replicator or small docking station, probably for T series..
you cna have it all, but i would like to send it ALL out, two T60 widescreen or something, the one with the flaky video chip solder job and a really beat up T60 and maybe a 770 of some sort..
nice to know the image is out there and available.. so much for google..
there are a LOT of round plug power supplies, floppy drives, an external something :-) of some sort of ultrabay and CD and/or floppy drive..
just try to find flopp drives these days.. these might be 2.88MB or 1.2 or ??
thanks

The question is how heavy will the box be (and there cannot be more than two batteries in all the laptops together and no batteries outside - bc. of crazy FedEx rules for transport from my US storage address to Europe) and how much you want for that all together? I can for sure post all things, I will not have use for, back to the forum and give them away to forum members in Europe. So more ThinkPaders will be happy :) I live less than 10 min. driving from Poland and Czechia, so I can send it really cheap to at least 3 countries.

It is 1:09 am here. So good night.

I would actually be interested in the "questionable" 701c motherboards... I had one that started pouring smoke out of it a few years ago near the inverter! I replaced the inverter, but it didn't help - it never POSTed again. (I couldn't find any burn marks or shorts anywhere...)

Do you have any of this stuff left? Currently starting my thinkpad journey. So far I have a 380e, a 770z, and an R52.
