T42 + Windows 98, wifi card with WPA2 support

#1 Post by matti157 » Sun Sep 10, 2023 2:10 pm

I have a T42 with intel 2915ABG board, unfortunately there are no drivers for Windows98

The drivers are only there for:
-Cisco Systems Mini PCI Wireless LAN (Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b).
-Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B (Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter)
-ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter
-ThinkPad 11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter
-ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter II

Can you tell me which of these supports WPA2?

I only ever succeeded getting WPA2 to work on Win98 with Ralink RT61 cards, and as far as I know, none of the stock Thinkpad WiFi cards use that chipset.

Updates: I found a zyxel g-170s that supports wpa2 via odissey client. It is an atheros AR5212.

At this point can you tell me if any of the minipci cards provided by IBM supports WPA2 via odissey?

My all-time (T4x/R5x) favourite TP-Link TL-WN861N card supports WPA2.
And W98 drivers can be found e.g. here.
You will first need to install the NO-1802 hack, see this.

Thanks! So no one official IBM card?

Do you use Odissey for the WN861N?

Never heard of Odissey (but I do know [Homer's] Odyssey).
