T41 hinges really tight

Hey,

Hoping for some guidance here... bought a T40p and a T41 which was delivered a couple of days ago.

When I open the T40p, the base of the laptop stays on the desk and I can lift the screen up with little force. With the T41 however, the hinges are really tight and it requires quite some force to get it open no matter which position the lid is in. When opening the lid, the base of the laptop lifts up which should give some idea as to how tight it actually is. It makes a 'rubbing' noise too.

Is there a fix for this?

I am not too sure but it seems like your T41's hinges may have gone bad from my understanding. By the way out of curiosity, where did you get your T40p from? I've looked for one of those on eBay as well as a T41p, T42p, and T43p for good price but are very expensive and hard to find if not can't be found at all there so it seems like you got a very lucky purchase.

You could try some WD-40 on those hinges.
Just don't force them.

I bought the T40p and the T41 from eBay, I’m based in the UK if that makes a difference. I’d consider selling the T40p if you’re interested. The only issue I’ve noticed with it is that XP complains that one of the USB root hubs is using too much power, ‘power surge’. Both USB ports still work on the machine however.

I hope the hinges aren’t bad but we’ll see after some WD-40!
