AI Chips

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Fri Jun 27, 2025 9:54 pm

Anyone know about the Lenovo LA1 AI Chip known as Lenovo AI Engine+. From reading it just controls the gaming laptops graphics and fans. I really don't want to get a laptop with AI stuff like an NPU. Copilot is a software based AI from Microsoft and uninstalled it from my Windows 10 and can on windows 11. I know it will be hard soon to find a laptop especially a ThinkPad without AI anything soon. I even hate it in my searching results now. And even on ebay listings where you can tell the seller used AI to talk about their item.

I upgraded my T16 to 24H2 yesterday and deleted the AI crap from it too. I had to do it for two other machines as well.

Wait until they force it on us with no way to delete it.

On a positive note, they finally fixed the sleep issue when closing the lid with external power. Only been three years now.

I'm not losing any sleep over "AI." It's a whole umbrella term, mostly marketing. Kind of like how "XP" was put on a bunch of stuff around the turn of the century, and "dot net" and the i-prefix after that.

But using Google Gemini for search is the "Ask Jeeves" that I've been waiting for since 1998. It makes up for modern search engines being absolute trash. I even have it built into my browser. All of the processing is done remotely and it's more accurate results than the first two pages of marketing-driven search results will give me.

I don't know what Microsoft is doing over there with Copilot. They always roll out something technically brilliant, and half-butt the implementation.

Pretty much AI is just a software or software on a chip that is programmed to get to know your typing habits, what you search for and so on. The AI or software tracking I don't like is collecting your data or Microsoft's OneDrive where it will save all your data in the cloud "Sever". It sounds nice but I still do it my way and backup on external drives and flash drives or multiple PCs. I uninstall OneDrive on Windows 10/11 when do a fresh install. I don't think I have to worry about Recall as I don't own any Intel Core Ultra or a PC with an NPU. It just seems like all this AI for consumers is for data harvesting. Now for the business side those programs "AI" are replacing all the tech people from IT to basic office and telemarking.

Now if want to go into the other AI programing such as self-driving cars and so on with physical work place. I think that area still has a few more year to be safe in. But they are working on human robotics to take physical jobs like warehouses and such.

The one thing I would like to see is if I could hookup a dead motherboard to an AI diagnostics and have it pinpoint where the problem is and save lots of time.
