Thanks axur-delmeria. Unfortunately, clicking on his "Contact Me" button does nothing. Guess I'm out of luck unless someone else has an LED kit available.
I found this one on AliExpress, but I'm not about to pay US$138.00 for their kit. That's more than the laptop is worth.

Then there's this one:
https://gbr.grandado.com/products/for-t ... klight-kit?
Much better price and it looks very similar to the xiphmont kit. I've never heard of "Grandado.com" before though. Apparently located in Hong Kong.
Sigh, apparently, my phone number is invalid so they won't process my order.
Edit: I got a response back from Grandado. They don't ship to the U.S.A. Oh well.
Take a look at our

Re: X6X-series LED backlight conversion kit howtos
This is a somewhat delayed response, but I just successfully installed a new LED backlight in my primary x61. I wasn't even sure if that site was still in business, and figured if the light arrived in working order, I'd post about here.
I bought the light here:
https://www.iccfl.com/product_info.php? ... s_id=11862
it works fine so far (about fifteen minutes of use), seems much brighter than the original fluorescent tube. The brightness controls work (evidently many LED replacement inverter cards do not).
They sent me a very nice note asking if I'd lost all my marbles to be spending $42 on a machine not worth $20 (actual text: "Hello. What is your notebook model and size?", but you can read between the lines easily enough). It arrived much sooner than I expected, within two weeks, I think.

X22, X32, 2 x X40, X41, X60, 4 x X61, X62, X1 Carbon 13th - all run just fine. There's justification for that "4 x X61"
Daily driver: X61 - the X1 is a work machine foisted upon me by my employer
I'm not actually a ThinkPad junkie, it just worked out that way.
