T60 Dead! Mobo help required please

#1 Post by spinner131 » Tue Oct 18, 2011 4:17 pm

Hello all,

Well my T60 went totally dead. No lights, no nothing. After doing the research and reading I did all the usual checks with my digital volt meter and with alternative power supplies, and the power button discharge trick but all offering no different result, I went through the internal peripheral removal process (ram, cd, hdd, wireless card etc) and then switched on, but it was the same. No go. Battery is OK. Cmos battery OK too.

A funny thing though...When I checked the Voltage on the internal end of the Motherboard....where the power goes to a white plug onto the motherboard, I am getting 44v rather than the expected 20v. I tested this with another spare T60 20v power supply and got the same result. How weird, I thought.

Anyway, Fuse F2 on the mobo checks out fine so I guess something else on the motherboard is at fault.

The Mobo is FRU: 42T0163

My Question:
Would someone be able to help me look up or understand which boards might be compatible? if there are any others? Or if I have to find one with exactly the same code?

I'll then put a message in the wanted section.

Really appreciate any help at all from the fine folk on this forum! :D
Regards,

What voltage do you measure on the output of the DC cable, without connecting it to the mobo?

There are contradictory specs for your mobo nr. 42T0163
Most say it has ATI X1400 graphics, others say it has Intel graphics.
That P/N is not in the standared Hardware Manual.
What is the 7-character TYPE/Model on the bottom of the laptop, and what is the PRODUCTID under it?
Looks like 2007-CTO or 2008-44U or similar.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I am getting 20.2vdc at the output of the adaptor(s) without connecting. I think I had the meter on the wrong setting when I checked previously connected to mobo. It was late and I was tired!

I have this underneath:

TYPE 2008-CTO S/N L3-KD428 07/04
PRODUCT ID: 2008URG

hope that helps to identify?
thanks!

Hello spinner131 and welcome to the forum :thumbs-UP:

According to Lenovo support page - putting in PRODUCT ID: 2008-URG into "Use Quick Path" brings up the following info:

ThinkPad T60 (2008-URG)
Based on 2008-CTO: T2400(1.83GHz), 1GB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business

So your motherboard has the 128MB ATI Radeon X1400 GPU - From the T60's HMM - FRU's are: 41W1368 or 41W1456 - Also from personal experience, another FRU is 44C3708.

There is one of these MB's for sale in the forums Marketplace from a UK forum member - See: T60 Motherboard [X1400] & PC Express Card Card Slot - If it is sold, I have a couple of working pulls in storage for the same price etc.

R60F: (Integrated Intel GPU) - [ThinkPad R60 15.0" FrankenPad]

Fantastic! Thanks for the welcome and also thank you so much for such excellent help.

I'll be in touch if I get no joy with the member who posted that mobo for sale.

Best wishes,
