Fresh XP on T41 - no Standby

#1 Post by trebman » Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:34 pm

Hi,
I have rebuilt my T41 with a fresh copy of Windows XP, Down loaded the Network Control from IBM, and got the Ether net running, installed the System Update Utility and installed the drivers. So I should be up-to-date on BIOS and the drivers

On "turn off computer" - I noticed the the stand-by was turned off. After spending hours looking for a fix, in the process I have:
- In prower management - Hybernate and stand-by are not available
- in BIOS - I'm using the defaults
- used MSconfig - and ran in diagnostics mode - no change so I assume it is not the drivers
- I've ran in Safe mode - no change but now IPCONFIG is failing????
- I booted stand-alone DOS - stand-by works fine - so BIOS appears to be functioning properly

This is a weird one.....

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Trebman

try installing/re-installing the video driver, since that was never a default driver in windows xp, and will cause the exact same symptoms as you mentioned.

If you only ran system update once, run it again untill there are no more drivers (deselecting what you don't want, i.e. I don't like Access Connections)
Elitebook 8440p, i5 520, 8gb, Samsung 840 SSD

Toshiba Portege 7020ct
