T410i - Power On button not responding - Fingerprint LED on

#1 Post by Romain » Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:56 pm

Hello All,

In my office we are using thinkpad T410I, one of my co-workers have an issue with is laptop.

We cannot power it on any more, when we press the power-on button, nothing append.

We tried to remove the power supply and the battery and then start again, but no effect.

We try with another power supply (charger), still no reaction.

The only thing which is on is the fingerprint reader LED. The green LED is on and after puting a finger on it, the orange LED is on for some few seconds.

Do you think the fingerprint reader can completely block the boot sequence? Because even the HDD or Bios isn't starting when we press power-on button.

How to remove the fingerprint protection? By removing the internal backup battery?

Is there anything else to do?

Thanks in advance for your help

Do you have a CD or DVD in the drive unit?

No we don't, and there is really no reaction at all when we press the power on button. The CD drive don't try to read the CD, the Hard-drive doesn't react either, even the fan of the CPU doesn't start to turn.

It's really like the power-On button isn't connected anymore, just the LED on the fingerprint reader is on.

We call Thinkpad support and we will certainly send the computer for a motherboard exchange...

I've read about some power-on securities related to the fingerprint. That the fingerprint can replace BIOS password but something should steal start I think...

Thank you for the help. If Thinkpad give us an explanation I will share it here.
