should i buy a t60p as a whole or cobble one together?

#1 Post by unless » Thu Oct 20, 2011 3:30 am

i am looking to purchase a t60p; my specification wish list is as follows:

- T7600 processor (2.33 ghz)
- 15" 1440x1050 SXGA+ IPS flexview display in NEW or very, very lightly used condition (i am intent on a screen with as close to IBM's advertised 200 nits of luminance as possible)
- ati firegl v2520 256mb
- chassis that is in impeccable shape (e.g. no scuffs on the outer lid)
- i want it to come sans ram and hard drive because i already have those things (and because it would save some money).

now, does such a system exist? i have no experience with building laptops and installing hardware and such, so would my best bet be to buy a motherboard, new display, and a like-new chassis and pay someone to put it all together? i don't know whether i should be looking for a complete unit, or separate pieces. but i do know that i don't want to buy a whole t60p complete with ram and hard drive and then have to spend more on replacement parts to make it to my liking, which after all is said and done would leave me with a slew of extra hardware parts that i don't need.

and it's not as though i can whip out my colorimeter and measure the display brightness of the t60p's i see on ebay BEFORE i buy, and i don't want to risk buying one and ending up with a screen that is dim, especially when the vast majority of the sellers don't offer returns. it'd be nice to be able to shop in person. :|

any ideas? where could i go to have a system like this built for me? i appreciate any help in this matter.

Welcome to the forum - :thumbs-UP:

You could post a WTB (Want-To-Buy) ad in this forums Marketplace outlining what you require etc - I have seen some Mint/Grade-A T60p's sell within hours of forum members posting their ad's. There is a T60p currently advertised from forum member: mr.motoring - see: T60p 15" IPS Flexview SXGA+ / T7600 2.33GHz / very clean - worth a look - [however it is a complete unit with ram and hard drive]

Edit:
Also see: T60p,T7600(2.33GHz),3GB,320GB,15" SXGA+ IPS Flexview *PIC [This too is a complete unit with ram and hard drive]

It will cost you a lot more to buy the individual components, on top of which you'd have to pay someone to put it all together for you.
The mentioned T60p machines are definitely worth a look.
Besides that, buying here, rather than on Fleabay, will give you much better quality, and you will know exactly what you will be getting!
