Appx. resale value of upgraded X220?
Appx. resale value of upgraded X220?
Hey all.
I'm wondering what would be a reasonable range of price to ask for my x220 either now or within the next couple of months:

Warranty (ThinkPad Protection) has about 8 months left and is renewable. Windows 7 is still installed and I'd provide the key. BIOS was updated to 1.19 to accommodate the mSATA SSD I added. To this configuration I've added:
4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz SODIMM (55Y3711) [identical to the first 4GB module, total 8GB RAM]
Renice X3 50mm mSATA Mini SATA 120GB RCM120-PX3M SSD (~$275 retail)
And I'd include the original box, manuals and AC charger, Logitech AnywhereMouse MX, & Waterfield Designs SleeveCase (made specifically to the X220's dimensions). Everything is like new.
I figure the value of the X220 will be quickly dropping as the generation of Ivy Bridge laptops begin to emerge, so it's best to sell now if ever...
Thanks!

Re: Appx. resale value of upgraded X220?
May I ask why are you trying to sell the X220 as I am on the verge of ordering one? Thanks!
ThinkPad x220 - i5 2520, IPS, 8GB Ram, 80GB mSata, 320GB HDD, FPR, Bluetooth, Intel 6205 wireless
Re: Appx. resale value of upgraded X220?
The X220 is amazing, don't get me wrong. It's just that I have been essentially using it as a netbook thus far, a total waste of its (rather expensive) computing power. I also want to get a tablet PC, actually if I had gone for the X220 tablet I would put up with it. I don't need an i7 laptop with 8GB of RAM because at my most taxing I will be running a virtual machine or two for simple programming. It is not ideal for graphics work or watching video because of the screen size/aspect ratio, though the IPS display is gorgeous. It's also heavy to carry around all day in a backpack (for an "ultraportable"). At this point I'd say to buy the X220 for its specs only if you know why you'd need top notch performance from a netbook-sized laptop (as opposed to a similarly priced 15 inch or mobile workstation).
Re: Appx. resale value of upgraded X220?
I can tell you that ThinkPads don't lose resale value too quickly. It's no X300/X301, W700/W701 (the DS models), or very old collectable machine, but if you were to turn around and sell it in the face of an X230 (i.e. an Ivy Bridge-refreshed laptop) you'd still be able to get about 800 to 900 dollars for it. To sell it right now on Fleabay would probably net you about 1000 dollars.
Seeing as how T61 machines seem to be selling around the 300-dollar mark, T400-class machines are around the 600-dollar mark, and T410-class machines are around the 700-dollar mark (their X201 counterparts seem to also be selling in the 800-dollar range).
You could probably try to sell it here, considering it hasn't been used much and people troll for ThinkPads here all the time: it's worth a shot anyways.
Plus, you could also put up a WTT (Want to Trade) post in the forum for an X201t or X220 Tablet- admittedly you're going to lose some money but you're going to get a ThinkPad that's not been tossed around by whoever owned it last.

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.

Thanks,
I'll try selling on these forums first. I would want it to go to someone appreciative. And here you all seem to take details seriously.
