Help! Win7 (ultimate) cdrom driver needed!

#1 Post by kubbabubba » Thu Oct 20, 2011 2:34 pm

Hi there!

I searched and searched but found no fix. After installation of windows 7 and maybe after ejecting the whole cdrom drive (ultrabay) windows isnt recognizing my cdrom. It sees the cdrom but not the actual cds. I can still boot froom the cdrom but under win7 there is a driver issue that has me baffled. I tried lenovo drivers and allowed windows to to search and find a suitable driver but I am stuck.

this is what the innitial error message:

anyone got a plan?

Thanks!

These things don't need and don't have drivers other than what's included in the OS.

If it doesn't work on a fresh install, usually it means there is a problem either with the drive or the Ultrabay connector.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

So I thought as well, however, this is the second thinkpad (first a t41 and now a t43) where this problem occured. The probobality of twice the identical problem with windows ultimate on a clean install with the ultrabay connector reoccring seems small.

As said the machine boots from cdr or dvds - its "just" under windows that it refuses to read the contents of the cdrom drive. Maybe there is a fix out there? Windows alone is not coping - even after troubleshooting, reinstalling, said driver... windows even treid to download and install a driver from lenovo however the effects are unspectacular.....

Strange indeed. Same install on both machines?

Try some of the things outlined here: http://capitalhead.com/articles/windows ... d-x86.aspx
