x61s No longer turning on :(

#1 Post by all0gic » Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:48 pm

Greetings chaps (and ladies),

I'm having a weird issue with my X61s since I changed the memory to give my friend a 2gb stick & left myself with two matching pairs pc2-6400s 1.8v modules. Now the Laptop did boot for a while & I thought all was well, then it stopped turning on. All I get now is the Green power circle with a Z in it, the batter & mains addapter led. The Hard Drive spins up & if I leave it on a for a while I can feel it heatting up, but nothing on the display at all. I've connected to an external montor still nothing...even changed memory that is known for working :(

Any tips? Or shall I just turn it into x61s spare parts :(?

Cheers all.

If you remove all memory, it should beep 1-3-3-1.
Check that and report back please.
The PC2-6400 RAM might not be compatible, try PC2-5300 instead.

try re-seating the SO-DIMM. Take out one module and boot with the remaining one and see

RealBlackStuff,

Tried using memory from a working T62P (PC2-5300) but still not working, same issue. No beeps at all with memory in or out?

Also tried reseating the memory.

Time to break for parts? :(

Ask the RAM back from your friend, and let him get other RAM.
If that still doesn't work, look for another motherboard.

No RAM: should beep 1-3-3-1.
If no beeps, normally bad mobo, but try the old RAM, just in case.

try unplugging the bluetooth cable from the motherboard. oddly enough, when I did that with an X61 tablet, it started working fine.

Have you removed the battery and the AC Adapter and then re attached,
sound like the machine is stuck in a sleep mode
