Carrying on from my original thread:-

Is the fingerprint reader classed as a USB device - it's not showing up in the device manager, where should it be? Since installing Win7 I hadn't thought to install drivers for the fingerprint reader. I installed the Win7 drivers but (from memory) the software popped up the dialogue for registering a fingerprint scan after I rebooted but failed with some error message - like "unknown error". I had a dig around google and came across a couple of suggestions - both based on the idea that a quirk of the win7 operating system design is that the default administrator account can not be used to register fingerprint scans so one suggestion was to create another administrator account; this didn't work. Another suggestion, again based on this same idea, was to install the older drivers for Vista/XP; this didn't work either. So - is the fingerprint reader the device that is causing the original problem of an "Device not recognized"? Does it definitely suggest the fingerprint reading hardware is faulty or is this just the problem of not being able to get drivers installed so that win7 can recognize the device?
T60 Fingerprint reader not working in Win7
Re: T60 Fingerprint reader not working in Win7
I've installed several of these in T61 models. First you install the driver, then it will "find" biometric co-processor after reboot. Then install the fingerprint app and it will walk you through setup.
Windows won't recognize it, you'll need the driver and the app from Lenovo.

Re: T60 Fingerprint reader not working in Win7
Thanks for the reply but I don't understand the distinction between the driver and the application I understand the difference between them as software components but not in terms of the files/software I've downloaded from Lenovo. I have this file:-
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... 8_32ww.exe
which I understood to be the driver however I am being prompted to get a fingerprint scanned in order to set it up so it looks to me as though the application has been installed.
I still don't know if the USB that is not being recognised is in fact the fingerprint reader or something else - I don't understand what is going on.
