T520, i7-2760QM, and docking stations

#1 Post by kickroot » Fri Oct 28, 2011 7:27 am

Hey guys, I'm a Thinkpad newbie here who's seriously looking at a nice T520 with the quad core i7-2760QM. I want to add a docking station but all of the stations say compatibility with the following:
ThinkPad L412, L420, L512, L520, T400s, T410, T410i, T410s, T410si, T420, T420s, T510, T510i, T520 Dual Core models, X220.
Why do they specify T520 Dual core models only? The i7-2760QM is quad core and I don't want to front out $200 for something that may not be compatible. Any thoughts?

To reply to my own question: I ended up chatting with Lenovo Sales who said that the docks are compatible with the quad core T520. The rep mentioned that several people in his department use them together.

You just want to be sure to get one with the 135 watt adapter. Think it's the Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 for mobile workstations (433820U).
Thinkpad T420 | Core i-5 2520M | 16gb RAM | 120gb Intel 520 SSD + 750gb 7200 RPM | 6300 N | Ubuntu 12.04 x64
Desktop: AMD FX-8350 (8 cores) | 32gb ECC RAM | 240gb Intel 530 SSD + 1tb 7200 RPM | Ubuntu 14.04 x64 | HP ZR24w
Previous Thinkpads: A21m, R40, X61, T410

I actually got 433830U, which was the 170 watt adapter (THINKPAD MINI DOCK PLUS SERIES 3 (170W) (US/CANADA/LA) ). I figured the more power the better given the number of peripherals I'll have attached.
