Re-stick "Feet"

#1 Post by wackyD » Fri Oct 28, 2011 7:53 pm

Hey folks, I recently picked up a few off lease T60's. All pretty decent, but I pulled one out of the bag the other day to find the rubber feet/bumpers on the base had come off and were stuck to the bag, not the laptop.

Looking them over, it is apparent that they were pulled off another machine and stuck on this one. One has adhesive both on the foot and on the base.

Any recommendations for re-stinking them well?

I was thinking scotch double sided tape cut to fit after cleaning off the old adhesive, but was not sure.

These machines will be headed to a mission Ranch I work with in Honduras with temps in the 70's to 90's year round, so adhesives that give up in the heat are not gonna do it.

Thanks!!!

Apply some Limburger cheese, that should do the trick!

Jokes aside, Superglue (cyanoacrylate) should do it.

3M brand "super weatherstrip adhesive". I used this for years in automotive aplications to hold gaskets in place and it can take heat upto 300 degrees easily. It comes in "yellow" color (snotty looking), but also available in black.

Super/krazy glue is very brittle and isn't good for attaching soft (rubber) to hard (plastic). Most rubber cement will get messy when it gets hot.

I used rubber cement so they are removable if necessary should they wear out. It has been 6 months and they are yet to come off and I place & remove the machine from a snug brief case serveral times a day.
