Ram install

#1 Post by kylake » Thu Apr 07, 2005 5:58 pm

I have a question about installing ram. My thinkpad now has 256 ram....I figure that is about the minimum for XP pro. I want to install 512 more. My question is can I put the 512 in the (easy) slot on the bottom of the thinkpad or since it already has 256 do I need to put the 512 under the keyboard and put the 256 under the laptop......does it make a difference as to which slot I put it into?
Thanks in advance for any help.....Larry

Both slots are "equal" - there is no need to populate them in a specific order. Generally the preloaded RAM is in the slot below the keyboard - and the slot on the bottom of the machine (considered to be the more "user accessible" one) is empty. That said, both slots are user accessible no probs!

So - to answer your question: Yes you can add the 512 stick in the open slot on the base of the machine :D

Thanks again Neil for the help......I knew in desktops the the slot could be important.

This is my first laptop and I didn't know what the IBM setup was....

OFF topic......how is the weather in Scotland?

Wet and rainy in Tennessee.....
