W500 not charging after glitch (reset should fix)

#1 Post by planetf1 » Tue Nov 01, 2011 6:27 am

Oh joys. Laptop (Lenovo W500) is now playing up.

Twice in the last few days (Saturday, Monday) it's gone a bit mental with some morse code beeps when trying to resume from suspend. I can't remember sequence.

Each time I've restarted -- it's booted into W7 fine, but after a while I've realised it's no longer charging. This has just happened again today. Last timeout a reboot didn't help, I ended up pulling battery & running a bios reset. This worked and it charged normally. It will run without charger plugged in and battery charge drops at normal rate. With power plugged in battery level remains constant

This has occurred with 3 different charges (2 regular, 1 dock) so wondering if it could be a fault with battery, charging circuit or system board

Anyone else had a similar issue -- I forsee a visit to the laptop medics may be in order

I have seen more than one problem with the charging circuit on w500 and t500 boards. I have never been able to fix them.
