Questions about Resuce & Recovery Disc and Window 7 upgrade
Questions about Resuce & Recovery Disc and Window 7 upgrade
Hi. i have some questions that iam not familiar with and wonder experts here can give some help.
I've purchased a W700ds (vista business)that came along with the original Lenovo win7 pro 32 bit upgrade media CD. which I am running now and did
the custom (clean) install with all the Window7 update without any issues... the upgrade media also came with the legit authorization code/sticker.
the machine is running fine as is...
i don't have a copy of the original Vista recover Cd and have wiped the HD clean with no partition and did the clean Win7 install... BUT NO R&R ...
So, I tried to download the latest Rescue&Recovery from Lenovo for this machine.
but unable to do so with the Error 25014.....
the R&R is very important to me, useful because it saves me time, doing all the fresh install/update can become a whole day ritual..
i would like to upgrade the OS to window7(64bit) and take advantage of the full 8GB of ram as well
I check online (Microsoft win7 forum) and it seems that the upgrade Win7 32bit code can also work with 64 bit, ...
so today I called Lenovo tech service to see if they can help and they said they can't really do much other than send me a set of Vista Recovery Cd.
the man didn't seem too knowledgeable..
I would just like to have Win7 64bit and R&R working on my machine...

Are you saying you had Error 25014 when trying to download R&R, or that you downloaded it but had error 25014 when trying to install R&R?chazz wrote: ... So, I tried to download the latest Rescue&Recovery from Lenovo for this machine.

Meanwhile, while we await clarification, you might need to check what prerequisites there are for R&R ... Client Security, etc.

Re: Questions about Resuce & Recovery Disc and Window 7 upgrade
sorry for not being clear, after downloading the newest R&R and while installing within the computer the error will come up..
I checked at the lenovo community it seems like quite a few people been having this issue as well ..
Lenovo phone operator said to me that you need a partition for the download to work, but he couldn't go into more details
I told him I am willing to buy a new copy of Window7 64 bit ..so I can get that "legit sticker/code" put on the back of this machine (if that's an issue) if he can send me a Win7 64 bit recovery Cd for my machine ...so that way I would have the correct legit code for the system.. ,,,but he kept saying it can't work because the machine's recovery cd OS is "OEM" ...(which of course I know that).
it was going in circles..So i gave up talking to him ...

Re: Questions about Resuce & Recovery Disc and Window 7 upgrade
Thank you for your response.
OK, so the error seems to have occurred because you don't have the recovery partition. IIRC, R&R sets up a recovery partition as part of the installation. However, it is worth checking on the prerequisites. Have you done that?
Read carefully through the detail ... where the devil lies ... before trying to install R&R. You may need to install ThinkVantage Client Security, etc.
I'd do some investigation for you, matey, but it's time for bed in this part of the world so over to you and goodnight.

Re: Questions about Resuce & Recovery Disc and Window 7 upgrade
Lenovo cannot now supply you with Win 7 x64 for a W700 under any circumstances, their licence agreement with Microsoft simply does not allow it.chazz wrote:it was going in circles.....
Since you have an Win 7 upgrade disk from the limited time Lenovo Win 7 upgrade program, you can use the key supplied with that disk if you are able to get hold of Win 7 x64 installation media for the exact same version of Win 7 as on the x86 disk upgrade disk (Win 7 Professional x64 in your case).
There are ways of getting hold of Win 7 x64 installation media from trustworthy Microsoft public distribution sites, but as I've never needed to do that myself, so I can't tell you how to do it (I get mine through TechNet)...... perhaps someone else here will post on that information.
Cheers,
Bill B.
