T410 and W510 - Charger & batteries compatibility

#1 Post by omarsg » Thu Nov 17, 2011 5:09 pm

Hello,

I will try to be as brief as possible, pardon me for my ignorance on this topic.

My T410 is faulty beyond repair and I bought a W510. So I now have a spare T410 AC Adapter and 2 spare T410 batteries. The batteries for T410 is the exact same size and can fit in the W510.

The details:-

T410 AC Adapter
FRU P/N: 42T4425
P/N: 42T4424
90W 20V
Output: 20V 4.5A

T410 6-cell battery
FRU P/N: 42T4791
P/N: 42T4790
NOM 10.8V 5.2Ah 57Wh
PSE 10.8V 4.76Ah

T410 9-cell SLICE battery
FRU P/N: 42T4739
P/N: 42T4740
NOM 11.1V 8.4Ah 94Wh
PSE 11.1V 7.74Ah

W510 AC Adapter
FRU P/N: 45N0053
P/N: 45N0052
135W 20V
Output: 20V 6.75A

W510 6-cell battery
FRU P/N: 42T4795
P/N: 42T4794
NOM 10.8V 5.2Ah 57Wh
PSE 10.8V 4.68Ah

With reference to the specs above, my questions are:

1) May I use the T410 6-cell and slice battery on my W510? If so, do I need to use the T410 adapter on my W510?

2) Will I kill my battery or my notebook...
a) ... if I use the T410 adapter on my W510?
b) ... if I use the W510 adapter to charge the T410 batteries slotted on my W510?

I regret for not paying attention in class :(

Any help appreciated.

Omar*... on most TPs ; generally, if it 'fits' most things WILL WORK - without much issues. battery is one such example; also most newer - 90w power supplys' generally if the fit into the 'power socket' it will work without much/no harm.........as the newer 90w power supply is 'kinda universal' for mostt thinkpads and some Ideapads even!...

Hope this extra info is helpfull !
cheers

Definitely..! Thanks for that...

Being electronically and electrically illeterate, I am always afraid when I see bigger numbers like 135W on my W510 and 90W on my T410 adapters :)

..135w PS = was only there for pple who ordered the intel 'extreme proc" ..... so Lenovo being lazy (initially) would give justt about everyone the 135W one... but if u look at the conf charts - 90W = was the STD PS also.....

So if you got one of those 9/12 cell (or rhe bigger12cell) BATTERY - the 90 will take a bit longer to 'fully charge it" ....... which is A GOOD THING ((slow chargers will give a lot loooonger battery life)..........FYI .. when am on road (which is often) I try and use the 65W charger as often as I can (usually use the 65W when my battery is fully charged over night - and am able to plug into an outlet) ..I have older T61 Thinkpad and battery in those still Hold 92% opf orgianly charge!!!

Good luck !

Hey ausmike,

Some feedbacks...

90W works fine on my W510, I don't mind the slower battery charge like you said and its better.

Tried the 65W (belonging to my wife's E220s) on my W510, the screen brightness went to zero and I can't bring it up, unplugged it and brightness went up. Not an issue but I think 65W adaptors won't do well on my W510.

Another feedback...

Using a 90W adaptor will power up and charge up your W510 with no issues... but there will be a decrease in performance as compared to when you are using the big and bulky 135W (the Intel Turbo Boost won't work when you are running on 90W adaptor and at times you may feel the "lagginess" of the machine)

But all batteries worked fine giving me no issues at all...

Just a FYI...
