pc2700 ddr333 vs 266 memory

#1 Post by fefrie » Fri Nov 18, 2011 9:25 pm

I haven't looked into the laptop yet, but i'm wondering, would there be any noticable daily surfing performance upgrading from 266mhz to 333mhz memory?

I've got a t42 1.7 with the ati 9600 graphics chip. I'll be keeping this one for awhile I think so a memory upgrade may be worthwile? I already have 2gb. Just have to check the speed..... Probably just 266, because well, that's just my luck.

Your T42 is supposed to use PC2700 (DDR 333) and not PC2100 (DDR 266). The latter will slow it down.

T40/p was the only palette out of the entire T4x generation that was shipped with PC2100 RAM.

166 is half of 333 so you have 333.

Thanks for the clarification. I took apart mine and I have 333mhz all around. I read on some website that it was possible to install 266mhz. Mine is a used system, so I would have suspected that someone switched it out for cheaper.

Except for the hard drive, I always consider the ram to be the defining performance indicator as to how snappy a computer will be.

Glad to have the best possible for this thing.....
