Missing IBMTOOLS and SWTOOLS required for XP installation
Missing IBMTOOLS and SWTOOLS required for XP installation
Hello all,
My old hard drive died and I don't have recovery discs. I was wondering if some kind soul would share these two folders with me. They seem to be required (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides- ... D=UM001359) for installing Windows XP on a new hard drive from scratch.
Your help will be highly appreciated!
Thanks.

Pretty sure everything important in those folders can be downloaded as well (and newer versions). What model do you have?

I have T60 2007. I believe you can find all the drivers, but not some of the utilities. E.g. step 19 in the instructions I mentioned calls for the following:jdrou wrote:Pretty sure everything important in those folders can be downloaded as well (and newer versions). What model do you have?
Apply the PCMCIA Power Policy Registry Patch. To do this, go to either C:\IBMTOOLS\OSFIXES\PCMCIAPW\ or C:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXES\PCMCIAPW\, double-click install.bat.
Thanks.
Re: Missing IBMTOOLS and SWTOOLS required for XP installation
Do you expect to do wake-on-LAN through a PCMCIA network card in a docking station? That's what that registry fix is for.
Most of the Windows hotfixes are probably no longer relevant with SP3 (which didn't exist when the 60-series was new).

No, I don't think I will need wake-on-LAN... Do you think that's the only thing in those folders that I will be missing? I wish there were updated detailed instructions for installing XP on this machine... I don't want to waste a lot of time on it...jdrou wrote:Do you expect to do wake-on-LAN through a PCMCIA network card in a docking station? That's what that registry fix is for.

Re: Missing IBMTOOLS and SWTOOLS required for XP installation
I'd say that you don't really need anything other than the drivers and maybe the .NET framework which you can d/l from MS.

They are not needed but include some incremental programs. I'm speaking of the SWTOOLS folder which you should have copied before wiping your old HDD. They however won't prevent you from running a base level Windows install.

It wiped itself before I had a chance to copy much.Bánh mì wrote:the SWTOOLS folder which you should have copied before wiping your old HDD.
