How to connect iPod to ubu 11.10 on X60s?

#1 Post by John H » Wed Nov 23, 2011 11:41 pm

I picked up a cherry iPod gen4 (32gb) and want to sync it outside of iTunes on my x60s with ubuntu 11.10 (so as not to get ensnared in Apple Corp.). I tried gtkpod and banshee, but no joy.

Anyone got this iPod working?
X60s - dualboot XP ubuntu 9.10
X60s - dualboot XP ubuntu 12.04
T520 - dualboot XP ubuntu 12.04
T60 - dualboot XP ubuntu 8.04
T40 - dualboot XP ubuntu 9.04
570 - dualboot XP ubuntu 7.10
570 - W2K
600 - W2K

IDK since I don't have an ipod, and don't use Ubuntu, but have you tried these methods?

gtkPOD (never tried it, but is advertised as best music sync app for ipod in Ubuntu)
Amarok 2.5 (might need some fiddling)
Clementine (will not sync album covers, otherwise best music app ever ipod or not, linux or not)
Rhythmbox (same problem as clementine)
Floola

I'm using a nano 3g (reformatted to fat32) + rhythmbox without problems.
I get occasional cover syncing hiccups indeed, but overall, that aspect
works well too.
I once tried gtkpod, but it was so slow that simply connecting the player
froze the entire application for ~2 minutes. But maybe this got fixed in recent
versions.
