Boot problem, screen distortion

#1 Post by mallorcaben » Sat Nov 26, 2011 5:49 am

Hi,
love my T41 but ust started to get a problem with it.
On booting up, the screen got sideways distortion, mostly at the edges.
I re booted & the hdd would not fire up. The HDD light not coming on.
Next time I tried, the HDD span but got the distortion again after a few minutes.
Not tried it since.
Any ideas?
If its the GFx card, I would like to upgrade the motherboard. What would be best.
Ive spent quite a bit upgrading this machine (wi-fi card, 2 gig ram, hdd, etc.)
Its been a fantastic reliable workhorse till now
Been running WIndows 7 on it with no problems

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Have a look at The Board Room website in my signature for more details..
Both the GPU and the Southbridge chips are becoming unstuck.
We stock professionally refurbished motherboards with ATI 7500 for your machine.
The more powerful T41/T42 mobos with ATI 9000, ATI 9600 or even ATI FireGL are exceedingly hard to find, and if you do, the quality might be more than doubtful.
Upgrading your machine is hardly worth it.
Replace your existing mobo, or move up to a newer generation, such as the T60.
Unless you stay with your T41, you will not be able to transfer any parts (such as HD, RAM, wifi card) to a newer machine.
PM me if interested.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
