R60 gets really hot - to the point of freezing up - Any fix?

Hi - I've got an aging R60 that, after extended use, gets super hot, to the point where it would just freeze up. So I've been making do with using it on top of one of those laptop cushions/caddy with a fan built in. But does anyone know if this is inevitable, or would it be possible to fix this by just replacing the fan? Sorry if this comes across as a really amateur question. Thanks in advance of any feedback.

Cleaning the fan with compressed air while holding the blades to prevent them from moving freely would be the first step.

What is the full 7-character model number of your R60?

Are you getting a "fan error" on boot?

And no "fan error" on boot.

You have Intel integrated graphics so the likely culprit is the fan itself, which is not providing sufficient cooling for the CPU.

Clean it as I've suggested in my previous post and report back whether it made a difference.

Will do. Thank you very much! By the way, I'm thinking of switching out my R60 screen with an IPS Flexview from a T60. Would such a switch end up putting an even greater load on the R60's integrated graphics such that the overheating issue may get worse? Also, I imagine, I can try to clean up and replace the old coolant paste on my CPU. Would you recommend that as well?

That hasn't been my experience. Yes, by all means, redo the paste.

Agreed with ZaZ. I've got a similar FrankenPad that I built for my twin boys, and haven't noticed any changes in temperature when I upgraded the screen from the original 15" XGA TN panel to the current 15" SXGA+ FlexView one...

If you're buying thermal paste to do that job use this stuff.

It's not conductive (which means that if you somehow spill the stuff it's not going to toast the machine) and is the best stuff you can buy (within reasonable limits).

You can use Silicon paste I use it works great low tempratures.
