T42 Network Controller Driver
T42 Network Controller Driver
hi all, just did a clean install of XP-Pro, mach. type= 2373-4WU; the last driver I need is for the Realtek Fast Ethernet NIC, can't find it.
Controller data as follows:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&SUBSYS_25518086&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&SUBSYS_25518086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&CC_0280
Realtek RTL8139;
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8139&SUBSYS_042810BD&REV_10
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8139&SUBSYS_042810BD
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8139&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8139&CC_0200
sure would appreciate the correct driver, that George is a wizard with this stuff!

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
yeah, I installed that driver already and device mgr shows it's working properly....but I still have the yellow question mark for the Network Controller and no connection.

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
This appears to be fairly common. I found posts & solutions elsewhere, only the links to needed driver's no longer valid.
What a shame, that Ubuntu supplies all the needed networking drivers, but windows cannot.
Lenovo's Thinkvantage driver search was no help on this either.
If anyone can shed some light on this issue, it sure would be appreciated.

The above is not possible.T43pSSD wrote:yeah, I installed that driver already and device mgr shows it's working properly....but I still have the yellow question mark for the Network Controller and no connection.
If DM shows it's working, it cannot also have a ?

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
I guess I was not clear, The 2 adapters show they are working.....the yellow mark is for the 'Network Controller'
I had this issue in an older R40 with XP as well; then when I installed Vista- presto it worked fine....as it does with Ubuntu 10.04
When trying to update the driver for the Network controller,Windows will not recognize
anything I have downloaded from IBM/Lenovo.
Would love some help with this.

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
If you followed the instructions correctly for installing the above indicated driver for your T42, and it is not working, then you must have a faulty ethernet port. Check for false/crossed contacts or dirt in the ethernet port.
It's not just double-clicking the downloaded driver, that only unpacks the download into c:\drivers\something
You need to go to that something and then run setup.exe from there.

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
thanks, I understand how to unpack and install drivers, and I'm sure the port is fine....what I lack is the correct driver for the network controller, simple as that.
as I said, Vista and Ubuntu both install it, but it's a problem with XP.....it is not a faulty port.

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
Back to basics.
1) you do NOT have a Realtek NIC
2) uninstall whatever 8139 stuff you have there.
3) you have an Intel Pro 10/100/1000 NIC.
4) download the Intel driver from here: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... rc13ww.exe

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
right, the Realtek is the cardbus, my blunder, which I failed to correct in the 1st post.
I unpacked/installed the driver (same as in your link) and the Intel pro 1000 shows as functioning properly in DM....then underneath, it shows 'other devices' and has the yellow mark next to Network controller'
SO, what is the distinction between these two? Is there not a separate driver? What can I possibly be missing, if the pro 1000 driver is installed and it says it's working?
This only an issue in XP, with 3 separate machines now.....one was the aforementioned R40, and 2 T42's. thanks for your help.

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
OK, after some more research, I found the solution.
went to: halfdone.com and downloaded a cool utility named 'unknown devices', ran it and it quickly showed the problem-
there's an Intel Pro\Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini Pci Adapter installed.
Went to Intel's site, http://support.lenovo.com/en_NL/downloa ... MIGR-59438 download/install driver and Voila! Everything works now. Hoorah.
Hope this helps others who have also run into this dilemma

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
Glad you got it sorted.
If you had mentioned 'other unkown device' sooner, I could have pointed you to such a utility: http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

Re: T42 Network Controller Driver
sorry, I thought the yellow question mark signified that. I'd have posted a screenshot, if I'd seen an easy way to do it on this forum.
Anyway, I'm wondering why IBM's Thinkvantage driver search utility did not list the driver I needed.
Thanks for your responses, much appreciated!
