760ED Hard Drive replacement?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

760ED Hard Drive replacement?

#1 Post by Atreides » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:59 pm

I recently picked up a 760ED from a fellow forum member. Though I have no experience whatsoever with vintage ThinkPads I really like this machine and would like to see if I could get it running.

From what I can tell, the only thing it seems to be missing is the HDD. I checked on ebay some, and originals are ridiculously expensive ($100). Therefore I was wondering if it's possible to use a some sort of IDE adapter and put a CF card or something in there.

You can find 760 series HD cases (no drive) for very little money on ebay.

You can then find a working smaller IDE drive or get an IDE to CFA card adapter if needed. The sled itself will have the adapter to standard IDE female.

That's good to hear. I forgot to mention I actually have the caddy and everything, just no drive. I just wasn't sure if it needed a specific type of drive or something.

I'll pick up an IDE>CF adapter from ebay and put my old 1gb CF card to some use, thanks for the info.
