Booting using usb flash Windows 7
Booting using usb flash Windows 7
Hi All,
I have X200 with XP on it. Created bootable USB with Windows 7 on it set boot order form usb and gives me " Error loading operating system".
I googled alot and could not find any solution for this.
Also I put this usb flash on my work T410 and it comes up and starts loading Windows 7 fine.
So i do not understand the issue here.
Any help is appreciated.
Here are some specs on it
- P8600 processor.
- Bios version is 3.20.
- 3GB ram.

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
Hi there
Not sure if your "x200" is a tablet . if so ; than there is reason WHY... eg the "boot.bak" etc files = very different from normal laptops eg t410.... so in short , I would 'create' a tablet boot USB.
Or there is something wrong with your boot sequence - reset that in Bios ...
I have had my X220T (outdoors version) boot from USB(32gb) + mSata +SSD+external Drive(either from the dvd or hardrive) ,,,,, all of them works very nicely!...(knows yours is x200)
Hope this helps

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
did you check your usb-Win7 disk on other pc or laptop
did you follow this procedure: link
in my opinion the best solution is just burn iso to usb using ultraiso > tutorial
did it few times and never had any issues

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
Thanks for the reply.
My x200 is not a tablet and i did burn the windows 7 iso onto usb and made it bootable.
I tried that usb on my work T410 thinkpad and it worked.
Also i pressed f12 and selected to boot from usb so even if boot order is not correct which wasnt the case here it should still be ok right?

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
Hi there
Not sure if X200 laptop has cability of USB boot - even if it shows in BIOS as an option - it might not be capable of that - since Lenovo has kinda consolidated few Bios that are now in common to lots of TPs. I know for SURE that X201, X220 series (laptops and tablets) do Did boot from my 64Gb usb stick.(sorry I never had one of x200 tps)I would call Lenovo tech Support and ask for levelII Bios boot versification via USB
Here is a link from a fellow Aussie - for USB boot- (maybe try this options etc ,,, not sure why but it took me couple of different things b 4 my USB boot worked - but that way at first fews weeks after Win7 release etc ,,,)
Hope this helps

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
ok I figured it out FINALLY!!!!
I was using LEXAR brand USB before so decided to change the USB and tried SANDISK
and it worked suprisingly.
I have NO idea how this works now.
So to anyone having 'Error Loading Operating system', try changing USB brand and see if it works.
Windows 7 is installed now whewwww

Re: Booting using usb flash Windows 7
I had a similar problem on Thinkpad X200 when a usb was made with MS tool. It did not boot, just showing a flashing cursor. The problem was that MS tool makes NTFS-Win7 bootable usb and not all BIOSes recognize NTFS. When usb was made "manually" with step-by-step preparation of FAT32-formatted bootable drive, then unpacked Win7.iso file there (instructions found on the internet), it finally booted and quickly installed Win 7 on HDD smoothly. This USB was made using different Win 7 laptop, because X200 had a wiped-out HDD (however NTFS-formatted - with Parted Magic).
