Ladies and gentlemen,
I am happy to announce that the panel was received today.
It's a samsung ltn154u2-l06 made in korea.
Actually it's *exactly the same* as my old panel, apart
from being 1920x1200 rather than 1680x1450.
It was ordered from http://www.notebook-displaysdirekt.de/
which in fact is located in Netherlands and not in Germany as I thought.
Packaging was excellent. I counted at least 10 rounds of bubble paper around the panel.
The order was placed (finally) on 14 of December (Wednesday) and I got the panel today (19 Dec-Monday).
Installation turned out to be extremely easy. Just followed the youtube video's I've seen around the web for the T61. The hardest part was by far to remove the front bezel (and to put it back). My fingers still hurt from trying! Whoever tries it, note that the bezel is stuck with adhesive tape at some points. Mainly on the bottom part.
So, I removed the panel, placed the new one, turned my laptop on... and that's it!
BIOS messages appeared as normal.
My debian booted, and I got X (nvidia driver) up and running at the native resolution immediately!
Brightness is really great, I have to lower it two stops (at least during the night). Viewing angles are similar to the previous panel.
In short, I have an old 1680x1450 panel for sale!
nvidia-settings reports the panel as an Seiko/Epson panel, I don't know why but who cares ?
The refresh rate is 60Hz, I think that's ok.
I believe that was one of the easiest upgrades on my T61p!

Thanks haritak for keeping me updated. I guess I'll move forward with my own upgrade plans.

You can! I would suggest, go for the LG panel. Eventhough I am really happy with my samsung, the LG has a better reputation. In my case, I thought I had ordered an LG panel, but then I noticed the word "compatible" somewhere, so I ended up with a samsung. I am happy though!thinkbui wrote:Thanks haritak for keeping me updated. I guess I'll move forward with my own upgrade plans.

Re: T61 upgrade WXGA to WSXGA+ or WUXGA?
Sorry for reviving an old thread.
I just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration
I upgraded my t61p with the QUADRO 570M from 1600x1050 to 1920x1200.
Found a screen for 60$ in ebay, I installed it and it all went surprisingly smooth. WIN 8 booted with the increased resolution right away
The only thing I have noticed is the computer being 5-9 degrees hotter due to obvious higher gpu requirements. I applied newer thermal paste just in case and it all appears to be alright.
Apart from that I love my new resolution
Thanks again

Oglon3r, glad to read your post!
My upgraded screen still works perfectly! I am a linux guy, so it's good to know that even win8 didn't have any problem.
